Any other Cavs fans not that mad at Lebron?

  • lhslep134
    Hear me out.

I think it's a fucking disgrace and a douchebag move what Lebron did. If he was intent on leaving he could have done it a lot sooner and a lot less painfully, and at least given the Cavs a chance to go after other FA's. He also should have never talked for the last 5 years about loyalty and bringing a championship to Cleveland if he was intent on leaving.

That being said. Lebron has made it clear that he's selfish and by quitting on the Cavaliers he let down an entire fanbase (quitting in Celtics series and leaving us) down, and he doesn't care about his legacy, because now he will never be perceived as great as Kobe or Jordan.

However, knowing that what I just said is true, since I can see how selfish he is, I don't blame him for going to Miami. He said last night that what he cared about the most was winning, so I can't justifiably be mad that he's doing what he truly wants to do. Also, I am more than a Cavs fan, I am also a basketball fan. While I will never ever root for Lebron, and I immaturely hope he gets injured, the Heat are going to be damn fun to watch with 4 olympians and all that talent the big 3 possess.

To the Lebron haters who think he doesn't owe the city of Cleveland anything:

While you normally would be right, Lebron spoke countless times in his 7 years here about his desire to win a championship for Cleveland and how he wouldn't stop until he brings us one, THEN he quits on us. So unless he wanted to be known as a completely backstabbing douchebag forever (which now we see he is), he DID owe us his word.

At the end of the day I will remain a Cavs fan, and will loudly cheer and support for Dan Gilbert, Byron Scott, and the rest of the classy organization (OK, what Dan Gilbert did wasn't really classy, but awesome nonetheless) that just got their hearts ripped out. But we will rebound. Scott is a great coach and I think we can still contend for a playoff birth since there's still a lot of work to be done with our roster.

Lebron choose championships over loyalty, and for that I can't be mad at him, only extremely irritated by the way in which he decided to draw out the process.

    Cleveland WILL be back.

End rant. I'm sure I'm going to get torn apart on here.

PS, I believe this proves why Kobe > #6.

not mad, anymore. for like an hour there, i was pissed.

How do you edit thread title? I meant to add "for the decision he made" at the end.
  • j_crazy
used to be you just clicked the thread title and held it for a second or two. with the new software, i dont know if you can.

He is more loyal than most fans. I am not a fan of his but wished he stayed in Cleveland (and I hate Cleveland teams) or at least went to Chicago. The Cavs didn't help themselves out much with the players they selected to put around him.

Not mad that he left...but mad at the way he chose to do so.

#1) I'm not mad about him living for the Heat. Can you honestly blame him? You play sports to win. If he thinks his best chance to win is in Miami, so be it.
#2) I am disappointed in the approach he took in announcing it. He should have just done what every other player does and just says, "I'm signing with the Heat". End of story.
#3) I am mad at Danny Ferry for not bringing in the right pieces. He made moves that didn't pan out at all (Shaq, Mo, Jamison).
#4) I commend Dan Gilbert for standing up and saying that this will not be the last of the Cavs.

Will I root for Lebron? Yes and no. Do I hate him? No. Will I root for the Heat? No. I think what they are doing is going to ruin the NBA. I've always thought about this in sports where big time athletes with huge endorsements take paycuts so they can join forces and win championships. Did I think Lebron would do it elsewhere? No.

It's really heartbreaking to see Lebron go. I've been following him since 2000. It's a huge upset, along the lines of a longtime girlfriend breaking up with you for the star quarterback.

I honestly hope that Cleveland can rebound from this, unfortunately, I don't think its possible with the roster in place now.

I will continue to root for the Cavs because I have finally found an NBA team that I want to follow. I grew up admiring players and not teams. Unfortunately, I will only admire teams now. Let's just hope Cleveland can rebound.

i think disappointed is more what im feeling than mad at him...i dont get why, like a lot of u said, he left CLE out to dry while milking this thing for all it was worth...with no draft picks and most FA signed im not sure what positives are gonna happen with the roster this offseason

its pretty tough to believe the player ive been watching in person since he was a freshman in HS is gone - i guess it was always a possibility but i always thought his roots were deep here, and that those type of roots meant he wouldnt leave unfinished business on the table

when its all said and done, im glad to have a guy like gilbert running the cavs, i think hes dedicated and willing to do as much as he can whenever he can...but lets be real - the cavs wont win before the heat theres just no way

and think about this for everybody who says the cavs havnt enough to put pieces around lebron - at one point in time he was playing with eric snow at PG (cant hit a 5 footer), damon jones at SG (hit the side of the backboard more than the rim), and donyell marshall at F (runs about a 15 second 40 yd dash) ...id say williams, parker, and jamison is a pretty decent upgrade at all spots...

I'm a marginal Cav fan. The NBA doesn't interest me much, but I wanted the Cavs to get to the finals and win it. You have to be a fan of James' talent whether he is a Cav or not.

    I had the following thoughts:
    1) Lebron has the right to leave Cleveland and go where he wants.
    2) He gave and he took from Cleveland. I think he gave as much as he took, but one can have whatever opinion they want on that.
    3) He wants to win championships, and in that context, should he play with Wild Thing and Mo or Bosh and Wade? That's a no brainer.
    4) Was the whole "The Decision" thing tacky, somewhat classless, and not well-concieved? Yep. Did it capture everyone's attention and raise money for a good cause? Yep.
    5) Did James owe Cleveland a better good-bye? Absolutely.
    6) I thought James was sticking it in Gilbert's eye in subtle ways. There's more to that story. I'm guessing that Gilbert told Lebron directly or indirectly what he said in his letter - that he quit in 3 games against Boston.
    7) Gilbert was the most disgraceful person in the whole spectacle. Lebron can never come back to Cleveland as long as he is the owner.
    8) The sun came up this morning, people are starving, suffering, and dying in the world. Some people need some semblance of perspective.

The more I read about Gilbert's comments, the more I don't want to be a Cavs fan. His letter does rank almost even with "The Decision".

Maybe I'll just be a Clippers fan and always expect to lose.

Great points from everyone. I got caught up in all the hype about a week ago after telling myself I wouldn't care. I have liked the Cavs since I can really remember (met Craig Ehlo when I was 4 back in '90). I have been telling my friends who were woe as me about the free agency spectacle, Dan Gilbert will not let this team slide back to the basement. It took losing/trading Grant Hill (who at that time was a top 5 player) and getting players who were considered scrubs or retreads before Detroit won a title. Been here before LeBron, still here after.

I am not mad. I have witnessed his circus since he was a freshman....I wouldn't have expected anything else. I am concerned however that this situation will not be good for Glorias coke habit....south beach baby.

I would say 3 years...but that goes for almost any lottery team in this day and age.

Yea me too. Thought it was a bitch move. Could have done it differently. As in..not had a friggin press conference, or just made a decision and stuck with it from jump.

Every other star that has left Cleveland has done so for more money. James left a shit load of money and his integrity behind. In my book, he is a chump, a punk, a quitter, and a front runner. I hope nothing but the worst for him and the rest of his so called teammates.
  • just_a_swimmer
Gilbert only said what everyone was thinking. If you watched James play the last two years in the playoff's then you know Lebron quit. Sometimes he acted just like a 12 year old. None of us wanted to believe it including me however he was just as much to blame for us not winning as anyone else. As Charles Barkley said. LBJ will never be the man, he doesn't have it in him.
He knew he was leaving it's obvious his relationship with Gilbert had disintegrated. I can't believe I ever stuck up for this guy.
  • Con_Alma
    not mad.

He's just an entertainer to me.

There's more entertainment in this world than I'll ever need or seek out.

kind of funny reading these posts. if any of us on here could stay as grounded at age 25 with all the money, glory, prestige, glam going on around us as lebron james did, we are all full of it. He earned free agency. he stayed 4 years longer than he should have when he signed his first extension. he doesnt owe cleveland shit. he interviewed 5 or 6 different teams in a business manner just as i would in assessing a new employee. he chose the best fit in his mind. he didnt owe anybody a phone all. as for the decision to be aired(sp?) on tv, it earned a the equivalent of a 9.7 adjusted because of cable. thats more than a monday night football game according to analysts. so, while everybody is chastising how he chose to tell everybody, we all tuned in to watch it. hypocrite comes to mind. He raised 5 mill for boys and girls clubs. Gilbert is just a plain douche working the crowd and acting like he had nothing to do with levron leaving. he has badmouthed every high profile guy to leave cleveland. while the cavs are done for a long time, gilbert still peddle reverse mortgage loans that are legal thievery. he'll be fine.

Yeah I agree with everyone here. LeBron was simply misunderstood. What a great fuckin guy he is. I just love LeBron. Silly Cleveland sports fans. It's just a game...merely entertainment...like going to the movies.
  • hoops23
Look, as a Cleveland fans we've all been subjected to heartbreak. We all thought Lebron would be different... We thought since he grew up here he understood..

We were all wrong. Point blank. We were blinded by the hope he provided us. Looking back at it, everything points to LeBron being this kind of guy. When things didn't go well, he backed down. He did it again by joining a "Super Team" in his prime.

It's sickening. The way he left is what totally pissed me off. I'm fine now, it's whatever.. I'm excited to see what the Cavs do and I'm glad we have an owner like Gilbert to move forward with.

Exactly. Glad at least you are keeping it in perspective.
