Reds @ Mets--Game 2

Amazing ... thatta boy Johan. Guy can handle a bat (that's what she said) haha

No offense to Santana, but this is just more proof to me that Maloney is not a ML pitcher. Santana is a career .166 hitter with no previous HRs. I just don't think Maloney has enough movement in his fastball to make up for his lack of speed. His other pitches aren't good enough either. He will probably never be much more than a AAAA player who spot starts in the ML when injuries occur.

    After four complete:
    Santana 50 pitches no runs
    Maloney 84 pitches one run
  • mhs95_06
7 and 9 pitch innings in the 5th, now Maloney 91, Santana 59.

Santana only pitches in two scenarios: he pitches a gem, and the Mets' offense shits the bed (See: tonight). Or, he gets rocked, and the Mets score just enough to make it interesting before losing 8-7. SO FRUSTRATING.

Yeah I hate 5+ innings of 1 run baseball from my starting pitchers....

    Jinxed it....

Votto's off balance throw costs him getting the force at 2nd, but they get an out at first on great plays by Cabrera and Maloney. Then the hit drives in two instead of just the one they would have had if Votto makes a controlled throw to 2nd, but one more thatn if the Votto gamble would have resulted in what Votto was gambling for, a double play.

Pretty pleased with Bay, especially of late. The guy simply hasn't lived up to his contract, BUT, he busts his ass every night and has played exceptional defense in LF. The RBIs are starting to come of late as well.

I'm not gonna rub it in. I just know that if a guy has thrown 100 pitches with 70+ strikes and is only through five innings, it is not a good sign for his success.

Good playing by corky in the top of the 9th. Reds chances of tying it or winning it in the 9th must be less than 10%. Now down to less than 5% with the Votto out.

Bay covered his eyes with his glove to miss that one -- bad error enhances the Reds chances.

Regardless of how this shakes out, I am LOVING Santana right now ... gotta love him telling Manuel to peace out.
  • mhs95_06
Great play by Davis for the 2nd out!

With Ramon dinged up, do you think Dusty would have pinch hit for Corky if Stubbs would have reached? I think not.

Huge win tonight against a very good Reds team, especially after yesterday's debacle. Best Santana has looked all season. He is normally a 2nd-half pitcher, but I guess he decided to turn his fortunes around a little before the break ...

Boring game tonight for a Reds fan.

I'm with the guy who thinks Maloney will never be anything more than a spot starter. He doesn't have an out pitch.

I don't think he did all that bad. Probably would of pitched better had the reds offense not sucked donkey balls.

Maloney and Jason Bay look almost identical if you put some hair on Bay's chin....and of course the tattoos
