Not a lot of movement but he's had them off balance enough. I like him thus far but worry that over the long haul of a season that teams would hit him pretty good the 2nd go around.....but he will be good for what the Reds need this season I imagine.

    Wood > Bailey

He's Leake but throws about 3 mph harder and doesn't keep them as off balance as Leake does.

With gaining experince and wisdom do you think he has a chance to be able to keep them as "off balance" as Leake does?

2nd time thru, Wood still has Lee's and Ramirez' numbers as he Ks them both! 4 innings 48 pitches.
  • dave
Wood has more experience than Leake does, he looks pretty filthy out there today.

    Travis Wood is dealing ... 1 Hit & 4 K's through 4
  • Ironman92
no because Leake is straight out of college with no minor league experince...he REALLY gets it....Wood appears to get it....but not to Leake's level....but he does have a little more umph

He is pitching very well...but Chicago does stink and the wind is blowing in.......the goood thing is many teams in the NL also stink like the Cubs

My Pico comment may be coming true.

    Votto hosed?
  • dave
Maybe Joey will put that clip on his how to run the bases instructional video.
  • mhs95_06
Votto lost his right hand grip on the 2B bag and rightfully got called out. He just wasn't able to execute the slide to the inside of the bag like Bruce did excellently on his double in the 2nd.
  • Ironman92
eh...not sure....ump was right there and knew Votto got there first.......tremendous camera work would likely show Votto's hand coming off maybe just an inch......did Castro get the glove on it in time????? No one had a better view.

Rememeber Chase Utley leading off a big inning doing exactly the same thing...except he didn't come off and appeared to avoid the tag....never saw the necessary angle and got that call....we'll call it even......but Votto won't have to miss 6 weeks.....so it could've been a lot worse I guess.
  • HeathAlum21
He sure looks good swinging the bat though.
  • Ironman92
    Votto with a single....not a double

Castro just hit a ball as hard as you can hit a ball....but Scott Rolen has enough golden gloves to field it.

6 Pitch 5th Inning for Wood
  • dave
Time to knock Silva out, he didn't have time to rest there.
  • Ironman92
Cubs playing Dustyball at the plate!

Silva is throwing dumbass pitches......Gomes is hacking at everything and after a good curve in which Gomes flails wildly he throws a cruddy 88 mph right down teh middle of the plate???? Gomes can hit that one!
  • Ironman92
    Stubbs turn to do something????
  • Ironman92
Good call Jim Day on Alyssa Milano......NICE

I agree that Leake REALLY gets it, and he gets it from amatuer baseball, as compared to 5 years of pro ball for Wood(they are less than a year apart in age). Both pitch well inside and aren't afraid to go there for strikes, like Cordero is. Maybe more savvy will kick in with Wood as he goes.

    Did Stubbs miss the sign?

Don't you get credit for a double on that if you overslide the bag like he did?

Stubbs is on pace for 175 strikeouts......he needs SIGNIFICANT improvement in that stat if he's going to ever contribute for anyone seriously

Give the kid some time. Damn.
  • se-alum
Stubbs is wearing on me...no way Gomes goes on his own.
  • Ironman92
    Stubbs is woeful right now.

No, only if you overrun the bag.

Like miss the sign! Either that or he is too intent on taking pitches regardless of the sign.
