Make-or-Break road trip for the Reds

  • SportsAndLady
Alright fellas. We got about 2 weeks til the all star break.

We have Philly in town for 2 more games..should win this series.

THEN, we have a road trip to end the first half of the season. I will TRULY get excited about this team if they can somehow stay in first heading into the all-star break.

But this road trip is gonna be tough.

    4 @ Chicago (Cubs)
    3 @ NY Mets
    4 @ Philly

What do you think? Can the Reds make it above .500 during this road trip?
  • SportsAndLady
FYI, the Cardinals end the first half like this:

    2 more against D-Backs
4 games against Milwaukee in St. Louis
    3 @ Colorado
    3 @ Houston

The Cubs are taking on water, but that's a big series that traditionally, the Reds struggle in.

I'd take 3-4 in New York and Philadelphia.

Will be interesting to see if they push Harang back and start Wood on Wednesday.
  • SportsAndLady
I hope they start Wood..dude has like a .3 ERA the last 4 games, despite being 2-2 in those 4 games.

It's another test for the Reds....they've passed several already and pass enough more and they can find the postseason.

I smell 4-6 the next 10.....that'll be plenty good enough in this horrid division

I will be at Citi Field on Monday for the Reds-Mets game, can't wait! The Mets are the best home team in baseball, but I have been hearing a lot about the Reds all season (in fact, the Mets play-by-play guy Gary Cohen has been touting the Reds since Opening Day as his sleeper team, so he has been bragging about his pick all year) ...
  • Ironman92
Reds could have trouble if they try to play long ball in that park like they did in Seattle....they figured that out in Oakland....but some of the Reds aren't the brightest...but much improved from years past.

Scott Rolen is a MVP candidate IMO.

I'm not going to make a prediction. If the Reds can keep pitching and hitting like they have all season they'll be fine

As long as they don't completely implode and can make it through the trip at ~.500 then they will be fine. A 5-6 trip (as long as they take at least 2 of 3 from Phil at home) will leave them in good shape. I think they'll go 7-4.
  • darbypitcher22
you need to go 7-3 or 8-2 on that trip IMO.... that woul give you a series win in all 3 parks

    Not very realistic.

I stand corrected! Props to Atlanta, they are TOUGH this year. Hope we can make our move with Heyward on the DL (and rumors are flying today that Cliff Lee is on his way to NY, but you never know) ... http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/marinersblog/2012235524_pressure_mounts_for_mets_to_ac.html

Not very realistic and doesn't add up. There are 11 games.

Now that Utley and Polanco are out I'd be satisfied with 6-5. I would have been satisfied with 5-6 if they weren't hurt.
  • karen lotz
I wouldn't be opposed to the Reds heading to the All Star break on a 7 game winning streak. :D
  • darbypitcher22
why is 7-4 or 8-3 or 9-2 not realistic? that would mean you've won all of the series... I mean, 2-2 splits will do you well, but to keep pace and stay ahead of Arizona, who has a weak stretch during that time, that's what you'll need to do
  • dave
Even the best teams in baseball usually win less than 60% of their road games. The Reds shouldn't realistically expect to win 3 series' against the competition they are facing. This is their longest road trip of the year I believe, you just don't expect to go 7-4 or better.

I don't think the Reds give a shit about what Arizona does.

Why is a 9-2 road trip unrealistic? lol

Hell, anything less than 11-0 is completely unacceptable.

The Mets are the only team I can see the Reds having problems with. New York is playing really well right now. The Cubs just aren't the team they've been in years past, but we've always had problems with them. The Phillies, we just took 2 of 3 from, and with the Phils not producing many runs (although 9 in game two against Cincy is pretty damn good) plus having two all stars out, it's hard to tell what will happen by the time the Reds stroll into Philadelphia. I like 7-4 as a good guess.

for ther ecord I meant St. Louis. and i don't understand why winnning those many games is seen as unralistic
