Official Offseason NHL Thread!!!!!!!

  • Strapping Young Lad
I thought i dreamt this but I just checked and the 'Hawks really did trade Big Buff to the Thrashers. This seems kind of like a kick in the balls for battling Chris Pronger for 6 games and much more on the way to a Stanley Cup. But like they say, pro sports really is a business first.

So, here is a place to discuss this and all other NHL offseason news and moves. Enjoy.

Where will Nabakov land? Will Boston find a buyer for Tim Thomas? Or will they go through and trade Marc Savard? Does Spezza get out of Ottawa? Some decent questions as we quickly approach the draft. I wish the Jackets were in any of these conversations, but it seems the possibility of a "name" player coming to C-bus is always nil.

The Hawks had to dump a lot of salary after the huge deals they gave Toews, Kane, and Hossa. It is no surprise whatsoever they traded Buff since he only has a year left on his deal.

And I may have been living under a rock for the past week, but I still think I would've heard about the Halak trade from Montreal to St. Louis. I just heard about this. This is a real shocker, IMO.
  • Strapping Young Lad
Imagine all the poor fuckers who rushed out and bought a Halak jersey after he embarrassed Ovi then Cindy, thinking he was the future of the Habs only to have him traded three weeks later, lol.
  • KnightXC1
^^ That trade doesn't make as much sense but it was probably done to capitalize since his stock may never be higher.
  • Strapping Young Lad
Right, but it could end up biting them in the ass if he is actually that good. Not sure who they got out of the deal though.
  • KnightXC1
    Very true

Hate to see big Buff go, but the salary cap in the NHL leaves no choice. The Hawks will still compete for the title for years with Toews-Kane-Hossa-Seabrook-Keith

Savard for Kaberle sounds like it's on the table. Gotta think the Bruins like their chances of landing Seguin if that deal goes down.

Would LOVE to see the Jackets get Savard for that 4th pick but I'm really doubtful it happens.

Hamhuis's rights were traded to Pittsburgh last night.

    Hall to Edmonton.

    Seguin to Boston.
  • End of Line
Philadelphia has a verbal agreement for Nabakov's rights.
  • Strapping Young Lad
Ah, Anyone should've been able to see that coming. I was wondering where he'd go, but it seems obvious.
  • End of Line
How much cap space does Philly have to afford him?
  • End of Line
I looked on Capgeek and the Flyers currently have a little over 10mil in cap space right now. But they have some key guys they need to re-sign.

    Aaron Asham-UFA
    Michael Leighton-UFA
    Brayden Coburn-RFA
    Daniel Carcillo-RFA

    Versteeg to Toronto

NHL free agent frenzy ar noon!!!
  • KnightXC1
Chicago got a bag of chips for Versteeg haha.

Jackets sign Etan Moreau from the worst team in the league Edmonton to come play here on the 3rd line? Riddle me that Howson.

It is sort of sad to see the dismantling of the Hawks. At least they won the Cup though, but still to see a good team being torn apart is a little sad.

But, it is making for a fun offseason.

    So far.

    Gonchar to Ottawa-3yr-16.5mil deal
    Tanguay to Calgary-1yr-1.7mil
    Mesjaros(sp?) to Philly for a 2nd round pick(TB)

Good bye "Sarge", thanks for your time in Pittsburgh! Going to be tough to replace him on the PP, hopefully "GoGo" is up to the task. Pens really need to sign Hamhuis now.
  • rock_knutne
Pittsburgh signed Zbynek Michalek from Phoenix, nice pick up!

This is the shut down/shot blocking defenseman they lacked last year.

    I love the Michalek signing!

I hate the hard salary cap. The end.
