Donovan has really stepped it up since 2006. For the last 2 years tho he has just been great. I will agree with you that he is the greatest ever and just think hes only 28 and has some great years ahead of him.

Yeah, I tried sticking up for him as well, but he even pissed me off to no end sometimes. But for a few years now I only remember a few games over that span that Ive been upset with him/his effort. He has really taken on the role of leader of this team and it has shown in our never give up attitude we have displayed.

1 in top form, 2 maybe, but he wont be the star.....at least I REALLY hope he isnt. HAHA, America will blow if a 36 yr old Landon Donovan is leading our attack...

LOL I dunno why but I found that extremely funny. I really hope he is around for 2 more WC's because I would really love to go watch him play in one. If 2018 is in England or the US then I am going to it for sure. I've thought about going to 2014 in Brazil though.

Im pretty sure Im heading to Brazil. Ive been saving for about ayear and have 1,500 already. With 3 years left before I need to realistically make my plans and reserve stuff I think I can make it.

England and USA would be GREAT. But something about REALLY traveling for the World Cup would be special.

I actually might start making plans for a trip to Brazil as well.

We could have the first OhioChatter gathering in Rio De Janeiro!

There's no chance we'll get the 2018 Cup, it'll be somewhere in Europe (This WC is in Africa and the next one is in South America). They aren't going to have three straight WC's outside of Europe. I think they will get the 2022 games though. It's a big disappointment that Columbus was eliminated as one of the host locations though.

Well I've never been outside of the US... I have been to 46 US states though. So going to England would be REALLY traveling for me haha. I mean I'm sure I could come up with the cash for Brazil. Maybe we could get like 4-6 of us together and all go though.

That's a good idea. I don't know if this site would be around in 2018/2022, but we should have a chatter road trip to the WC. I doubt I'd ever have enough money to go to a WC outside America, though.

That would have been sweet but I've been hoping that if the US did get the 2022 WC that it would be in Indy.

haha, not that UK isnt REALLY traveling, but they speak English and are honestly like us with more history. Ive been to England twice, Ireland, Ethiopia, Italy, Spain and France with a day trip to Netherlands (our flight was cancelled and we had to stay the night). Of those trips, UK is by far the least "travel like". Its a great trip, but the other places were that much better. Brazil would be that way, and Brazil hosting a WC would be unreal!

How hard is it to get into a country for the WC? Is it just the same as taking a vacation there?

Brazil is our best bet. A.) Pretty poor country in areas so our money goes far with food and lodging. B.) we can drive to Texas border and have a cheap flight to Brazil. This has been the WC Ive been trying for because of these reasons. Financially, it is the best bet for Americans outside of Mexico/USA/Canada.

Ha ha, I doubt Canada are going to be hosting a WC anytime soon. It would be interesting though, to say the least. :)

When I got my ticket voucher things from FIFA for this WC it said that some countries citizens would require a visa to travel to South Africa for the games or else they may not be able to enter the country. I checked and the U.S. wasn't a country they were referring to but I guess if you were from some smaller country they may require a travel visa.

Go to Rio my friend! Went down there 2 years ago for Carnivale ... actually caught a Fluminense match too at Maracana Stadium, great time! Fun city, and I didn't notice the famous crime that everyone talks about. Brazilian women are beautiful, I am sure you will have a ball

Haha yeah I gotcha... I one day want to travel around Europe but I just havent ever had money. Ireland is my #1 place I want to see though. And I guess I can agree that since they are English speaking it would take away from it. Brazil would be pretty fucking awesome though. Maybe I should start saving haha.

BAB Im editting to not leave you out :). But I just might go like I said I should start saving. And I know the women are beautiful haha. I have also heard that Rio is a pretty good place. Thanks for your input though man.

Thank god for rich grandpas....Although my family isnt quite as into soccer as I am, so my grandparents wont be paying for a trip to Brazil. This is all gonna have to be on my own. haha.

How much would it cost to go to Brazil for maybe 1 or 2 games? Have they released anything about what the ticket prices are going to be around?

I havent looked, but I cant imagine they have released anything with this WC still being played. Flights though should be raised too much, so you can always estimate based on what they are right now.

For what it's worth, my trip to Rio was NOT too expensive. I think the flight roundtrip was around $550 (on TAM, a fantastic airline, probably my best flight ever) and hotels and meals/drinks are cheap down there. To give you an idea, we would grab dinner, drink a bunch of wine (at nice places), do a shot, whatever, and the most I spent on a meal was like $35 U.S.

They also have a sweet bar policy down there: you pay for all your drinks at the end, without tipping. When you order a drink at the bar, they give you this card with all the drinks on it, and the bartender marks down with a pen what you ordered then gives the card back to you. At the end, you walk up to the cashier and pay (totally wasted haha) ...
