Reds fans: Would you sign Pedro for a late-season run?

  • Mooney44Cards
Pedro Martinez plans to pitch in 2010, per ESPNdeportes.com

MLBTradeRumors considers the Reds a contender for his services.

Yes.....we have a girth of starting pitching, but we must come to the realization that someone will be traded or move to the bullpen soon (Bailey, Harang) which could leave us with Arroyo, Cueto, and Leake for sure. LeCure is a big question mark. He has looked solid in a few small samples and run into some Cy Young winning opposing pitchers. If we're not careful Leake may have to be shut down later on this year.

So with Volquez coming back soon I see these guys as "for sure" guys in the rotation:
    Johnny Cueto
    Bronson Arroyo
Edinson Volquez? (even this is a stretch, he may come back in the bullpen)

My answer? If we're in the hunt, or we are going to make the playoffs, sign him if the price is right. He would be a SOLID starter for the playoffs.

Would he cost too much? Probably. But if we're playing baseball in October, theres no other guy I'd rather have on the mound.

    Over Aaron Harang, yes.

If he can pitch... sure. But a lot of it would depend on his asking price for me.

Pedro is about as potent as Bronson Arroyo....both would not be effective in the same rotation

I don't want Pedro Clemens...not a team player....quite selfish at this time of his career...I think Jonny Gomes and Scott Rolen would kick his ass.

Absolutely. Leake will be shut down in a couple months. Pedro could help the young guys.
