Only thing to like about MSU is Izzo.

Agree, but if I had a kid that was capable of playing D1 ball, I would push him towards MSU, just because of Izzo....and I am a die hard Buckeye fan.

    I agree.

Good move. I'm trying to figure out what these NBA GM's see in college coaches when too many failed the next level.

So I guess this means that Gilbert throws tons of money at Byron Scott?....or possibly the Zen Master...lol

OMG this means that Lebron is leaving!!!!!!!!

Phil is in LA next year or at home in Montana.

    Tom Izzo statement:

"It's been an agonizing week as I tried to make a decision about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I apologize for the time the process has taken, but sometimes there are opportunities that come about that must be thoroughly examined. I'm no different than any other successful coach in that I've had multiple inquiries before, but this one was uniquely intriguing. There was a lot of information to gather and consider and some of it wasn't easily obtainable. But when making a life decision, I owed it to myself and my family to do my due diligence. From that I never wavered. And I'm pleased to say I am here for life at Michigan State.

"Throughout the entire process, Dan Gilbert and the entire Cleveland organization has been nothing but class. His professionalism and caring nature for me, my family and Michigan State have been impressive. I wish him nothing but the best in his quest to win a world championship. Just as I decided to stay home, I hope a 6-8, 270-pound forward in Cleveland decides to stay home."

"We have a great team returning next year with incredibly high goals. I've repeatedly said I have greater goals for our program and that remains unchanged. Tops on that list is becoming one of just seven schools with three or more NCAA Championships. I'm also driven to continue to raise the perception of our program to an elite level."

"The entire Michigan State community has been terrific. I'm almost embarrassed by some of the acts of support, but I'm certainly touched. I tried to approach this decision in a rational manner, but my heart was always at MSU."

"My goals are not limited to Spartan basketball. I want to do whatever I can to make our entire athletic department and university better. Most important is helping Mark Dantonio and his football team attain its goal of winning a Big Ten Championship and playing in the Rose Bowl."

Yep. I think its going to be a few weeks before we have a new head coach. Lakers are going to give Phil all the time he wants before they decide whether or not to move on. If Scott decides to wait this thing might drag on for awhile.

Why hold a press conference the same night of the NBA Finals? He couldn't until the morning?
  • newarkcatholicfan
I can see James playing for Scott but no Phil.
  • KR1245
Why hold a press conference period? I've never heard of a coach holding a conference to announce that he is turning down a job.....seems weird to me.

I wonder if Stern is gonna try and fine Izzo after those comments too. I agree its probably the best move for him to stay and IMO hes the 2nd best in the college game.
  • thedynasty1998
How can Stern fine someone that isn't his employee?

Smart move by Izzo! I don't know anyone that doesn't like Izzo and he's just one of those guys that belongs at the college level.

Also, I think this means that he wasn't confident that Lebron is coming back.
  • wildcats20
I think this means he loves MSU more than he loves money.
  • mattinctown
Good move, if Lebron doesn't come back he just took a job with a horrible team. MSU with a decent chance to win the title this year, stay where you are loved.

Exactly. He will make more money than he could ever need at MSU and he is a god there.

    Blessing in disguise.

I would have liked to see him as the Cavs coach, but in a way I'm glad he stayed. He is MSU and everything that embodies that school.

I know he loves the college game as he said today "I'm a lifer".. I think he was REALLY close to taking this job, but his heart wasn't 100% in it.

With that said, Byron Scott PLEASE come to Cleveland :)
  • jordo212000
Byron Scott? Really? I think the Cavs should wait this one out. Surely they can get better than that. He's been fired twice and his last team quit on him.
  • wildcats20
Who better is going to be out there? Phil is only going to coach in LA. Who else is there?

They need to think outside the box a little bit. If Byron Scott is the "best" guy out there, then I guess they should hire him. But I have my doubts. At this point I'm not sure I like Scott any better than I liked Mike Brown and I didn't like Mike Brown all that much.

Their coaching search has been very creative so far (sarcasm). Top college coach and the token retread who has been fired multiple times already.
