Royals at Reds, game 2

  • mhs95_06
After Cueto gets thru the 1st scorelss on 19 pitches(one 8 pitch walk), the Reds put 4 on the board in the first on homers way out to left by Phillips(solo) and Gomes(two on).

Last night the Reds didn't get the 4-0 lead until the 4th giving the Royals only 5 innings to come back and they needed only two more innings to take the lead. Tonight it looks like once the Reds get the 4-0 lead, the Royals are coming back with runs the very next inning, and tonight they'll have 8 innings to come back. Reds need to keep adding on runs.

Well I am just getting over a terrible sinus infection that has kept me down for three days but watching Cueto is just making me even more sick ..... up 4-0 after 1 ... down 5-4 bottom of the 2nd

Gomes has trouble seeing the drive to left by DeJesus, and misses out on taking the two steps back he needed to flag it down for the 3rd out, and it goes for a three RBI triple to give the Royals the lead at 5-4 after two innings. Glad I chose not to start Cueto in fantasy league. He has "lost it" in June! Reds have lost the the chance to "add on" to their lead and need to re-take it.

Big four run inning to re-take the lead, 8-5. Hernandez with a big 2 out hit to drive in Bruce with two out to get the 4th run. A big pick-up of Stubbs who looked really bad in his at bat, both on the failed suicide squeeze bunt and the remainder of the strike out AB. Dusty says Stubbs is a "good" bunter, but he doesn't do it very much with his great speed because "they play him too far in". Well this time it didn't matter where they were playing on the squeeze, all he has to do is get it on the grouind fair, and he blew it bad. Another key part of that inning was the Votto AB. Votto has been looking really bad at the plate lately, trying to swing too hard on very hitable pitches that he normally hammers with a good smooth swing, and he did that on that AB, but after the exciement and distraction of the BP steal and lucky extra base, the pitcher lost concentration and brough up Gomes with no out and runners on the corners, and of course Gomes crushed another one.

    Can Gomes do it again?
  • mhs95_06
There, Votto got a good swing and an RBI. Its been since the first part of the 8th inning on Thursday since something went well for him after he got in that spat with Mota after knocking in the lead run, and lost concentration as evidenced by him being easily doubled off 1B on a routine fly ball when he failed to recognize there was only one out!

Gomes gets two bad strike calls on pitches that were well inside, then a break in getting grazed for a HBP base to get on after being in a 0-2 hole.

Gomes now leads the NL in RBI's

And probably won't make the ASG. Thom has been talking about it tonight. There are at least 5 Reds who deserve to be an Anaheim for the game.

Now that Cabrera has batted in the 5th, Dusty needs to get him out of the game to rest and get a better fielding SS in the game.

Gomes hit again and this time it was worse than the first one

Rain delay in 6th at Pawtucket. Will end Aroldis Chapman's night: 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K (ties career high).

Okay that is 4 Reds batters hit tonight now

I expect somebody to hit a Royals player tomorrow. I can't believe it didn't happen tonight.

Gomes is fun to watch. I love the way he plays the game. In other news the Reds are up a game and a half on the Cards.
