Thanks for letting us win one, Cinci posters! -
Ironman92Jonny Gomes 0-6 going into today's game.....Ramon Hernandez 4/5 off of today's starter.
Today.....Jonny Gomes 0-4 with 3 K
Players don't stay on fire forever......managers who can see the fire willowing a bit will give the hot player a rest.
Dusty will never be that manager......and no one has been hotter than Laynce Nix with NO SIGNS of willowing and he sat him. -

ironman summed that up fairly well...yeah, he's been tearing it up lately, but everyone needs a day off and considering he was just 0 for his last 6, Dusty should have seen this and gave him the day off, and thrown in Hernandez in the DH role (like mentioned, 4/5 off Huff).jordo212000 wrote:
Uhh how do you not play Jonny Gomes? He's been tearing the cover off the ball.SportsAndLady wrote: Yeah Hernandez for Gomes in the DH would have been the right choice..I dont see how you dont play someone who is 4/5 against a pitcher? -

Gomes basically did have the day off. He was the designated hitter. I find it interesting that nothing was said about Hernandez playing for Gomes until after the game/results were known. You could have made the argument for Hanigan sitting and I wouldn't have argued, but I can't agree that I would have played Hernandez for Gomes. Gomes has been among the best run producers for the Reds lately, I just don't understand how you guys can take a 6 AB sample size and use it as gospel. I can look at Gomes & Hernandez stats and I can come up with my own stats to disprove you, stats can be used to make any kind of argument a person wants.SportsAndLady wrote: ironman summed that up fairly well...yeah, he's been tearing it up lately, but everyone needs a day off and considering he was just 0 for his last 6, Dusty should have seen this and gave him the day off, and thrown in Hernandez in the DH role (like mentioned, 4/5 off Huff). -

You want Laynce Nix in the lineup vs. a lefty? Nix is a career .185 hitter vs lefties. That's a winning strategy thereIronman92 wrote: Dusty will never be that manager......and no one has been hotter than Laynce Nix with NO SIGNS of willowing and he sat him. -
Azubuike24The nine batters Dusty ran out there against a terrible lefty today was the right lineup. They just didn't produce.

Yes, it's not Hernandez for Gomes, but it's Hernandez for Hanigan, which is basically the same thing..I dont care who he plays for, but a guy who is 4/5 off a pitcher should be in there, ESPECIALLY when you have a DH spot open.SportsAndLady wrote: Ramon Hernandez is 4 for 5 with a homer against Huff, but of course Hanigan gets the start. -
daveHanigan caught Homer's last 2 very good starts, the one before that where he got rocked Hernandez caught it. Also, with 2 catchers you aren't going to see Dusty play the same guy a day game after he catches a night game, especially Ramon.
Gomes is this team's DH. It's not easy to be a DH when you aren't used to it, and Gomes has done a great job the last 2 seasons.
Really the only option was Heisey or Nix. Obviously Dusty will go with the RHB every time, and Heisey can't just rot on the bench. He needs ABs and this was the time to get a few. Unfortunately he laid an egg today. -
