NOW I can post this and be 100% sure lolwildcats20 wrote: And the run in first will last another night!! -
daveI hope that last inning didn't wake up the brewers for tomorrow. Reds definitely have a favorable pitching matchup since Parra hasn't started this year.

Mooney44CardsWas at the game tonight, in the row right in front of all the neon yellow tshirts......some little fucking kids on a class trip. They made me wanna scream.
My analysis:
That first inning for the Reds was huge. Yes it would have been nice if we scored some runs but Gallardo threw like 30-some pitches that inning. That set him up the rest of the game. I knew he was going to be untouchable after the 3rd inning but I wasn't worried because his pitch count was up there. I whipped out the phone to get on the Brewers website to see how strong their bullpen was.......and of course I started licking my chops. Jonny Gomes.....what can you say. A few years ago, it was perfectly clear that this guy was NOT an every day player, and now look at him. He truly is the heart and soul of this team. He plays with the most passion and energy and its clearly rubbing off on guys. Now if Stubbs continues his struggles I'd like to see what Heisey can do with some regularity, color me impressed so far!
How bout them first place Redlegs! -
mhs95_06How about this line-up against the lefty in the afternoon game tomorrow:
Heisey RF
Cairo 3B
Phillips 2B
Gomes LF
Hernandez 1B
Hanigan C
Stubbs CF
Janish SS
Bailey P -

jordo212000I love Jonny Gomes. I knew he was going to be swinging hard when they intentionally walked Bruce. I actually said this to my dad, "they are seriously walking Bruce to pitch to Gomes? Wow."
Stubbs has plenty of room for improvement, but he has been playing better lately. His average still doesn't reflect that, but he'll be fine. I'm not worried about him. He gets on base at a nice rate and that's really all I care about from a guy hitting 7th in the order -
Azubuike24The Reds always struggle with Manny Parra.
I could see them starting Heisey, but unlikely. Bruce would be the ideal one to sit, but he's been an OBP machine lately. My bet is the lineup will be the usual one with a longer day coming up.
SS Cabrera
2B Phillips
1B Votto
3B Rolen
RF Bruce
LF Gomes
CF Stubbs
C Hanigan
P Bailey
I could see Janish in for Phillips after the baserunning play tonight, or Janish in for Rolen. However, with the homestand coming to an end, I don't see the Reds holding anyone out tomorrow. -
Mooney44Cards
Rolen hasn't had an off day in awhile, and its a day game after night game so I see him sitting. I'll take Janish at 3B.Azubuike24 wrote: The Reds always struggle with Manny Parra.

killdeerThis is very sweet, even if only to have the Reds in 1st place for two days!
However,
1. why pull Massett after one inning when he is mowing 'em down. His stuff was really moving. This super-specialization of pitchers is really getting out-of-hand. If a pitcher cannot go more than one inning, then he doesn't deserve to be in the show. I can guarantee you that Nick was ready to go out there. Dusty is just thinkin'..."we haven't got Danny out there in 10 days, so let's get him a low pressure outing". Okay...BUT WIN THE DAM GAME!!
2. Have you seen a bat get around quicker tha Gomes did on that late inning dinger?? That thing was absolutely moving, and he hit that ball right on the sweet spot. It was gone. He plays and plays and plays and plays until he cools off. -
Mooney44CardsWe really need Heisey to get some consistent at bats. I think he can really show us something.
He'll most likely start in CF today. Can't wait until this weekend when we can play Heisey LF AND Gomes at DH. -

Agreed. They need to let him play. I've been against bringing him up since beginning. There isn't much you can learn sitting on the bench. He needs to be playing. It's good to see him play when he does though because he usually makes stuff happen.Mooney44Cards wrote: We really need Heisey to get some consistent at bats. I think he can really show us something.

You don't need to use your best all the time. With a five run lead is a good time to use less than the best, otherwise you'll burn out your best, and the hope is that there will be many times you need your best. I was hoping they wouldn't even put Massett in at all, since it was his 3rd day in a row.killdeer wrote: This is very sweet, even if only to have the Reds in 1st place for two days!

If Gomes would have hit it right on the sweet spot it would have went more then just a couple of rows over the fence. When I saw him hit it from the CF camera I was anticipating it going way out, like more than 20 rows, so I think he missed the "sweet spot" by a little bit. -
Little Danny
1. I agree with you on the first point. I seriously think managers over think this crap. Back in the day, relievers like Bruce Sutter and Goose Gossage would pitch for 2-3 innings.killdeer wrote: This is very sweet, even if only to have the Reds in 1st place for two days!

2. I don't necessarily mind getting Herrerra some pitches in that situation. The longer a pitcher sits on the bench, the harding it is for him to get back into groove. As Brantley stated last night, it is better to over pitch your guy rather than to under pitch him.
3. Loved the timing of the Gomes dinger. It was just after the annoucners were talking about how things happen when he comes to the plate and how even Ernie Banks and Tony LaRussa told notice of him.
