Can Cincinnati host the All-Star game already?!
-
Mooney44CardsTwo years in a row they've hosted the Civil Rights game and shown they can pull it off well. They've packed 'em in twice for what is still largely a meaningless early season game.
What more does Cincinnati have to do to host the All-Star game? All these cities are getting promised ASGs once they build a new ball park, why was this never promised for Cincinnati?
In 2 years the area around GABP will be booming. The Queen City Tower should be finished by November (the outer construction is nearly finished), The Banks has finally made some progress and should be open in 2012 sometime. Is it time to award Cincinnati an ASG already? -
georgemc80Honestly, the Mediocre American Ballpark is not that appealing

SportsAndLadyWhether the Cviil Rights game is a joke or not, they still host it very well. I thought I read something like the Reds are teh only team to open a new stadium and not have an all star game? What the fuck

Ironman92It's about time. When was the last time 1988?

Not true. Citi Field in NY isn't scheduled for one, Nor is Citizens Bank in Philly, whatever the stadium is in Washington, Petco in San Diego. All these have opened since 2000 and have not hosted an All-Star Game.SportsAndLady wrote: Whether the Cviil Rights game is a joke or not, they still host it very well. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh hosted twice in a 12 year span. Then 44 year old Angel Stadium gets it this year, and Phoenix "look out, theres a spic!" Arizona gets it next year. -
darbypitcher22I doubt Citi Field gets one any time soon, since they were just in New York, albeit the Bronx in '08, and don't count on San Diego getting one soon either considering this year's game is in Anaheim.
Phily hasn't had one since the early 90's (yes, I know, not as long as it has been for Cincy, but Citizen's Bank has also been around longer than GABP if my memory serves right).
I think they might get the 2012 bid -
gorocks99Fenway will get it in 2012, 100th anniversary.

CinciX12Why isn't it appealing?
-
cbus4lifeBecause it is in Cincinnati?
But, seriously, this article sums up quite nicely why i can't stand it.

some pretty stinging comments, but they're the experts -
Mooney44CardsCan I see the field?
Are there any bad seats?
Is it clean?
Is everything very accessible?
The answer to all those questions is yes. I'm not going to a game to enjoy the ballpark which has a "consistent overall design". I'm going there to watch baseball. If you're complaining about it, you're either an architect or a snob. I'm not saying that its the most beautiful or the best designed ballpark out there, but I LOVE the place and it has nothing to do with what it looks like, and everything to do with who plays there.
And I don't really think MLB is going to say "well your ballpark is fragmented and lacks an overall aesthetic design, so you don't get an ASG". So while I respect your opinion that the ballpark sucks......what does this have to do with the ASG? Or were you just trying to be a dick? -
cbus4lifeJust trying to be a dick.

Mooney44CardsHmmmm.....Mark Shelton you read my mind:

cbus4lifeGood timing on that.

BigAppleBuckeyeThat's too bad, I haven't been to the new Cincy ballpark but was planning to check it out at some point. I have plans to catch my first game at Baltimore's Camden Yards in July, can't wait.
As for the Mets' new ballpark (Citi Field), its GORGEOUS. Shea was a shithole, but this new stadium is just beautiful (despite its cavernous dimensions on the field). I don't have the link handy, but the NY Post did a survey, and 70% of all New Yorkers like Citi Field better than Yankee Stadium (and bear in mind there are more Yankee fans here).
