Weekend boxing 5/14

Lots of interesting fights going on this weekend.
By far the most interesting is the HBO show, the whole thing looks good if I lived in New York I would go to this fight instead of just watching what HBO shows.
Here is the whole line up:

Main event is Amir Khan(22-1) vs Paulie Malignaggi(27-3)
Having no punching power at all has been a great thing for Malignaggi...
The handlers of the very popular Khan would not have picked Paulie if he could punch. Same goes for Cotto, Hatton and Juan Diaz.
I've only seen Khan a few times but he is exciting and for having no punching power Paulie been in some good ones too.
Expecting a good fight and I hope Paulie pulls the upset.

The undercard has GBP prospect Victor Ortiz(26-2-1) vs retread Nate Campbell(33-5-1)
The last time time both men found themselves in the ring with a rugged opponent they quit. Nate used the headbutt rules to get a no-contest instead of a loss, Victor turned his back on a guy he had dropped three times.
Ortiz is going to find himself in a rough fight again tomorrow with a vet, who hits hard and will be in his face all night, if he wilts again GBP will dump him.

I'm expecting two good fights on HBO tomorrow.

espn2 has a solid main event on Friday Night Fights tonight.
    Julio Diaz(36-6) vs Herman Ngoudjo(18-3)
Ngoudjo is a big draw in Montreal so it makes perfect sense to have this fight in Vegas...
These guys stay busy in the ring, the only way this fight will be boring is if one guy just dominates the other.
Rest of show doesn't look like much on paper:

Shobox has a fighter I've been waiting to see tonight.
Light middlweight title holder Sergiy Dzinziruk(36-0) vs Daniel Dawson(34-1)
I've seen Dawson once if Segiy wipes him out I'll be impressed.

Interesting fight in the UK tomorrow too.
Lightweights Michael Katsidis(26-2) vs Kevin Mitchell(31-0)
Not on tv here but if I have a chance tomorrow afternoon I'll be looking for a stream.

Very impressed with Khan last night.
Not at all impressed with Ortiz.

Against a 38-year-old lightweight I didn't see anything at all that indicates he will not quit again the next he finds himself in a tough fight and in this division tough opponents are hard to avoid.
GBP better keep him away from Bradley and Alexander if they don't want their so-called future star to embarrass them again.

Khan just put a beat down on Malignaggi. He beat the cockiness out of Paulie, first time that I've seen him graceful after a fight whether he won or lost. The Khan chin may be a weakness but you have to get to it.
I thought it was interesting that Max didn't ask Khan about fighting Ortiz next. At the top of the broadcast he talked about the two winners possibly facing each other next but they did not mention that afterwards.

Khan worked him. Kudos to Paulie for telling it like it was in the post-fight interview. Khan was definitely impressive. I didn't think that he could fight that style of fight and beat Paulie. Credit to Freddie Roach for that gameplan and to Khan for executing it.
