Why Mel Kiper is an idiot

  • Trueblue23
"JaMarcus Russell is going to immediately energize that fanbase, that football team -- on the practice field, in that locker room. Three years from now you could be looking at a guy that's certainly one of the elite top five quarterbacks in this league. ...You're talking about a 2-3 year period once he's under center. Look out because the skill level that he has is certainly John Elway-like."

Yea he's a pretty big douche.

Mel Kiper would kick your ass. He's the man. What did you do pick the one prediction he got wrong out of 400???
  • End of Line
The thing with Russell is that he's lazy.
  • jordo212000
Yeah I like to make fun of Kiper but he's usually pretty locked in on this kind of thing. You do realize he's been doing this for years right? He is going to get a few wrong every here and then. If he never got one wrong he'd be in a front office somewhere
  • Trueblue23
    Kiper is a turd.

Yo Mel, Ace Ventura called, he wants his hair back.

Goes to show the draft in any sport is, at best, a dice roll.

mostly every draft board had russel ranked the #1 quaterback in the 2007, he had the tools but you can never count the player being lazy!

according to mel kiper the following were all can't miss franchise quarterbacks: Alex Smith, Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, David
Carr, Joey Harrington, Andre Ware and Jeff George. He said that Akili Smith was a better prospect than Culpepper or McNabb. He also said that Ryan Leaf had the right "attitude" to give him an advantage over Peyton Manning

Kiper is an idiot. I've yet to have someone explain to me what credentials he has to tell everyone else why a team should select a specific player over another, and then bitch when the team deviates from his selections...sure he is decent at picking some picks, but then again anyone can pick the top 5 picks in a specific draft. Don't give this POS more credit than he deserves.

I agree with this. I did a first round mock draft for my friends blog site for last year's draft (2009) and I had as many correct first round picks as Kiper without looking at his mock draft (6). He only got 6 first round picks right (from his mock draft made around the same time mine was.

He makes his money, however, by knowing virtually everything about every player, which in itself is really impressive. His analysis of 4th through 7th round picks is better than anybody in the business and that's why he's around.

There are SO many more things that go into a bust than just the player's skill, and the player's skill is what Kiper knows. Hell, Tim Couch woulda been a hell of a QB for us if we had any sort of offensive line to protect us. How our original FO didn't think to get an O line for a rookie QB is extremely mind boggling. That original FO through the first couple drafts set us so far back that we're finally now starting to recover through our past couple drafts.

I disagree. He honestly just uses buzz words for particular positions to sound like he knows what he's talking about, then he'll bring up some random weakness as to why he's dropped so far, and he always seems to feel they got good value and could be good in the future.

Give anyone his salary and I could know everything about every player too.
