Although, honestly, the hitting hasn't been the problem that everyone thought it would be coming in. The pitching has let them down to start the season, and the defense has let them down to start the season. You've GOT to expect Beckett/Lester/Lackey will put together better starts as we go into the season, right now Beckett has an ERA of 6.31, Lester an ERA of 4.71, and Lackey an ERA of 4.50. All of those are way higher than their career averages. Throw in Beltre's struggles on defense (he's a career .956 fielding percentage, but is starting off this season way below that at .909 with 5 errors ALREADY) and you have a recipe for struggling.
Of course, they seem to be getting on track with a sweep of the Jays and then they go and promptly get swept by the worst team in the AL (Baltimore). I have a feeling it will be a frustrating season with a lot of ups and downs.
