I was watching a replay of the OSU spring game with Mike Tomczak part of the announcing team.
Got me thinking about the season opening game in 1995 when the Steelers hosted the Detroit Lions at Three Rivers Stadium.
Lions had a talented cast on offense with Barry Sanders, Scott Mitchell, Herman Moore, Brett Perriman and so on.
Steelers hoped to begin their quest back to the playoffs after losing to San Diego in the AFC Championship in 1994.
Eventful game.
The Steelers lost Rod Woodson for the season with a knee injury. Barry Sanders made a juke move and Woodson's knee got caught in the turf.
The Steelers also lost Neil O'Donnell to a broken finger. Mike Tomczak came off the bench and led two scoring drives in the second half.
But it was also the game went Tomzcak scrambled and got crushed by Tracy Scroggins. He got up but it was one the more violent looking collisions on a quarterback.
Game went back and forth.
Steelers went up 20-10 in the second half but the Lions tied it 20-20.
Norm Johnson kicked the GW field goal with no time left and the Steelers won 23-20.
