  Mike & Mike were talking about this today, again. If you break it down as to how many wins he brings (WARP) to his team more than any other player, Cox actually lowballed him. His worth would be about $54 million per year. He brings his team, on average, an extra 12 wins per year. Howard brings the Phillies about 5. So...Pujols income should be at least double Howard's if you believe in these numbers.

  Pujols is NOT twice the player Howard is. I dont think the Phillies made a very smart long term business decision but Howard will put up as good(if not better, like he has been for the last 4 or so years already) of numbers as Pujols for the next 3 or 4 years.

  Here are the HR and RBI totals for the last 4 years. Pujols dominates as far as average but Howard dominates in HR and RBI.

  HR and RBI are not all that is involved in Baseball. You can't ignore Batting Average, Hits, Strikeouts, OBP..etc.. Howard strikes out more than two and half times more than Pujols. Pujols puts the ball in play. Strikeouts do not move baserunners.

  And Pujols dominates in OBP, walks and (less) times striking out.
  
  The Phillies could regret giving that fat, and the KEY word is "fat" contract to Howard. At his size, he could make himself one dimensional (DH only) and his contract isn't exactly trade friendly to an American League team. He's a GREAT player but I could see his production going the way of Big Sloppy over in Boston if he keeps getting bigger.

  You also cant forget the fact that Howard has Rollins, Voctorino, and Utley in front of him with Worth and Ibanez behind him.

  Who is better on defense....lol Pujols is a gold glove candidate nearly every year and howard regularly leads in errors and far more often fails to bail out his teammates on errors.

  Oh......forgot one small one, from 2006-2009 Pujols struck out 72 more times than HR hits..........Howard had 116 more strikeouts than HITS

  That's 539 times in 4 seasons that Howard failed to put the ball in play or walk.........how many more RBI would he have?
  
  It's right at 135 times a season that Howard would strikeout while Pujols would either be putting the ball in play of walking....almost 1 far better at bat per game. Howard has a few more HR and RBI......but this number here blows it out IMO.
  
  Pujols is far and away the best player in baseball....Howard is a very productive power hitter.....and in that category Pujols is right on him....only with a batting avg 58 points higher

  Pujols puts up numbers with junk on his team. Ludwick had a good year and Holliday has been on his team for less than a year. Howard has had 2 guys that have competed for the MVP award with him as well as Shane Victorino. We were all discussing this on another thread yesterday. Pujols may not be worth TWICE as much, but its close.

  Saw this too. I like it. Assuming he lives til he's 70, and by then there's a good possibility he'll live past that, that's $160 million (40 years x $4 mil). I'd even up it to $5 mil.
  
  I can see him associating himself with the Cardinals for a long time in some aspect, so the lifetime contract isn't that crazy of an idea.

  When you look at the overall picture, and not just the sexy HR/RBI numbers, Pujols is 100% times better than Howard.

  I hate doing this, because I really do have respect for the past, but I think Pujols is the best player of all time, at least if he can keep his pace up somewhat.
  
  I'm sorry but the quality of pitching nowadays, or at least the depth, not necessarily the quality at the top, is much better than when Dimaggio, Williams, and others played.
  
  I used to talk to my grandpa before he passed what it was like watching those ball players. He used to tell me that it was impressive and fun to watch, but that the pitchers also only threw 85 sometimes 90 mph tops, and that the pitchers who threw faster than that were the ones who were especially dominant (think Bob Feller, Bob Gibson). Nowadays you have guys throwing 94-95 MPH with good breaking stuff who can't dominate at all. As athletes become more modernized the quality of competition has improved, and that's why I think what Pujols is doing is more than absurd it's downright legendary.
