Dolphins GM asks Dez Bryant if mom's a prostitute

  • Benny The Jet
Wow, that's a hell of a curveball thrown at you during an interview.

"So what do you bring to this team? What are your strengths, weaknesses? Was your mom a dirty pirate hooker?"

Good for Dez for not goin ape shit on him.

  • Hb31187
Id of punched him in the face no questions asked

I don't see a problem with this. This is the kind of question I ask as an ice breaker when meeting new people.

What a piece of shit Ireland is.

No way does he deserve this, for those who don't like Dez. Going at someone's family like that, especially their mom. Goodell better have the balls to fine him too!

He should have answered....yes. That would have caught them off guard.

    Or even better:

"Yes, she is...you tryin to get laid?" **Pulls out cell phone**

He should have said,...That's a stupid fucking question. You think her fucking you and then asking for money were a mere coincidence? Everybody in the room.. if any.. would have been like WTF?!

So you're considering investing millions of dollars into a kid who has a checkered past and questionable relatives and this is an unreasonable question? I'm going out on a limb here but I doubt it was the opening question, probably something you work up to as you are asking questions about the relatives, his past, etc. I don't see a problem with it.

What does yoru mom being a prostitute have to do with anything?
  • j_crazy
    Granted I'm a homer, but...

Technically he asked if she was still a prostitute because at one point she was.

I don't condone asking this question in any other situation than the NFL draft process with a kid who has at least some known issues.

There's no room for that question. Millions of dollars or not, that is beyond reproach.

Many high paying jobs do background checks to look for criminals in the family.
  • Pick6
who cares if his mom is/was..you can only pick your friends, not your family.

That would be the single dumbest thing you could do. Not to mention it would cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Really? Name them. Other than a politician this is a question that should not be asked. He is asking Dez about his character not his mothers.

Some jobs that aren't even high paying do background checks to see if you are associated with criminals. Any law enforcement job at the state or federal level does extensive background checks to check on who the people are associated with.

Granted the GM shouldn't have the question that way in the interview, but with Dez's history of off the field problems, I wouldn't have a problem with the GM asking "Are you associated with any criminals through your friends or family?" If you are going to invest millions in someone, you want to be as careful as possible in choosing the right person.

Dez is a tremendous talent. I'd like to see him have a great career (can't believe I just said that about a Cowboy). Hopefully, the guy can turn his life around and stay out of trouble off the field.

Wonder if Lebron got asked this before the Cavs drafted him? ;)

They were more concerned with who bought the Hummer :)

Maybe the conversation went something like this:

"Gee Dez, I saw your mom on TV and she looks awfully familiar..... hmm.. I know I have seen her somewhere before... oh boy, this is awkward... Is she a prostitute? "
    :D

Anyone know if Dez's mother has a record? If she doesn't, it was wrong to ask this question.

This thread is useless without pics!

my understanding is she has a long record and one of the crimes was prostitution.

Ireland apologized to Bryant and said that he (Ireland) was an idiot for asking that question and he (Ireland) needs to chill out and quit taking his job so seriously that it leads him to do dumb things.

Maybe hooking was the only way she was able to provide for her family? There should be no shame in that.
