Which sport league has the best athletes

  • SportsAndLady
NFL? NBA? Professional soccer players (basically EPL, Serie A, Spanish Premira)

To me, I think if you want best overall athletes it has to be from the NBA.

overall athleticism it has to be NBA. Theyre not the toughest or best conditioned...but theyre the athletic freaks of the bunch

    PBA, hands down.

    I say NBA.

Depends how you define athlete, people have different definitions.

I would imagine the best conditioned are probably the soccer players. Constant jogging with the occasional dead sprint to the ball. At least in the NBA/NFL there are breaks frequently.

NHL, hockey players go through hell, especially to win the Stanley Cup.

Most athletically gifted (AKA Freaks) --- NBA
Best shape and overall body build --- Soccer
    Strongest --- NFL

Id think anything else youd define an athlete by would also come from those 3 sports. Possibly Hockey as most tough from a game by game basis, but not on a play by play basis...that goes NFL.

When I hear the word athlete I think of the NBA, mainly because of Lebron James.

Hard to compare across sports. All are better at certain things.

    poker

Agree with most here on NBA for best athletes.

I think Iron Man triathletes are the best conditioned followed by cyclist.

Aussie Rules Football is the toughest sport if you don't count any combat (MMA) as sport.

I think the NBA has the overall better athletes. However, I think you take an NFL wide receiver, they'd compare in athleticism to an NBA player.

    I agree with this.

The NBA players are by far the best athletes in the world.

I guess it depends how you define athlete--- hell, Peyton Manning is without question one of the best athletes in the world if you define it simply by someone that is really good at a sport. Personally, I would define it as versatility and the 'measurables.' By that definition, NBA players on average are by far the best athletes in the world. It isn't even close. Nowhere else can you find guys that are that long and can run like a gazelle, can change directions on a dime, and can get their palm 11 or 12 feet in the air. To play in the NBA you HAVE to be able to run, stay in front of people, get off the floor, etc. Not necessarily true in other sports.

Their are two terms thrown around here in regards to athlete.

    1) Athlete as in a person who participates in athletics.

    2) Athletic as in a person who is physically capable of doing things that are insanely difficult.

I'm guessing this topic is about #2.

Peyton falls into #1, while he's great at his sport, nobody is going to mistake him for being athletic.

NBA players fall into #2. Not many people can truly dunk on a 10 foot rim in a game on guys who are pushing 6'9-7'0 in the paint routinely. Not many people can keep up with the up and down tempo of an NBA game (soccer players obviously can), Not many people are able to twist their bodies while going toward the hoop the way NBA players can..

I mean, LeBron is a FREAK of nature. A 6'9'' 260+ pound dude should NOT be able to be as freakishly athletic as he is.
  • SQ_Crazies
How does Peyton not fall into #2 also? Is it easy for you to throw a spot on ball 40 yards while avoiding 280 pound dudes? It's insanely difficult and he's clearly physically capable of doing it.

    Peyton doesn't avoid tacklers lol.

As for throwing the ball, cool. A lot of people can do that, however not many have Peyton's accuracy, I'll give you that.

    But, Peyton is not athletic.

That's like saying a golfer is athletic because he hits longer tee shots.

Michael Vick was a hell of an athlete, not a great QB. There is a separation between the two.
  • SQ_Crazies
I mean, he does exactly what you described in your #2, yet you aren't willing to put him in that category because it doesn't support your argument?
