Reds are not so bad in the NL in runs scored at 6th, but in pitching they are 15th in runs allowed and ERA. I was surprised that they were not closer to the bottom in pitches per plate appearance(I think they are about 6th from the bottom).

How much of the poor pitching performance so far this season is an indictment of the new pitching coach?

The pitching staff has been a major disappointment for me. I expected them to pitch near the top 5 of the NL

Is General Soreness a 2 or 3 start general?

    Piching has been very disappointing.

Extremely. I think we all were skeptical of Harang....we expected arroyo to do well......and for Bailey to keep improving..and for cueto to be better than last year.....and then a 5th guy .....well i expected good things and Leake hasnt done bad.

    Adrian Gonzalez Solo HR

    1-0 San Diego

Cueto looks great against the first two batters, then hangs a change-up to Adrian Gonzalez of all freakin' people in the Padres line-up.
  • RiverRat13
I'm rooting big time for Drew Stubbs, but he just swings and misses way too often. His contact rate is atrocious.
  • mhs95_06
With rain heading toward GABP, Cueto only throws one ball in 13 pitches in the 1st with two strikeouts. But as mentioned the 0-1 change-up to Gonzales went out to the opposite field. Just shows how relatively small GABP is when a hitter doesn't even have to pull a change-up to get it out of the park!

JC has had good stuff thus far.
  • mhs95_06
Stupid, inept execution of a rundown play gets Cueto hurt! It should not take more than one throw!
  • dave
    still pitching to gonzo :(
  • mhs95_06
Another stupid play, this time by Cueto, not paying attention on baserunning. I guess he's trying to shorten the game to get in 5 before it rains!
  • Big Red Monster
    2 run double

    3-0 Padres.
  • mhs95_06
Headley gets a great jump on a strikeout pitch in the dirt to Blanks, Hernandez makes a great throw, and Rolen a great tag, but the call was safe on a play that XMO shows as being extremely close. Then Torrealba rips a two RBI double to LCF to put the Padres up 3-0.
  • dave
this team is ridiculous, they don't deserve more than the 5k or so that are in the stands.
  • mhs95_06
Three outs given away on baserunning errors so far.
  • mhs95_06
Now Stubbs demonstrates how far his head is from the game after catching a fly for the 2nd out and throwing it in the stands.
  • dave
if this game doesn't show you dusty needs to go i don't know what will. he's completely lost the team.

The embarrassment that is the Cincinnati Reds lives on.
  • Ironman92
2 guys getting picked off base

player tossing ball in stands after 2nd out

Reds seem to have no clue Padres pitcher lives on a changeup

May 24th can't get here fast enough!

Oddly enough, Cueto's line today was almost identical to Leake's against the Dodgers the other night. Funny how you make your pitcher look so much better when you score some runs. Cueto had his stuff today, just made a few costly mistakes. I can't ride his ass for that. The hitting (and especially baserunning) today has been atrocious. It seems like just when a guy gets going, he hits another slump. Votto was on a tear, then he walks 3 times last night and today he can't hit anything. Bruce has gone back to swinging at pitches way out of the zone. Stubbs showed he was ok down in the order so of course Dusty moves him back to leadoff and he proceeds to strikeout to lead off the game. Gomes is a liability in left field. Hernandez can't hit, yet we play him instead of Hanigan who is on fire. I like playing Janish today because he has been hitting well, but Cabrera has been an RBI machine and he's on the bench of course. The only player I'm not concerned about is Phillips who has been a slow starter his whole career.

The baserunning today has been inexcusable. It'd be nice if Mr. Nice Guy Dusty Baker would tear into this team and let them know they're better than this, rather than making excuses. The message should be sent by first of all sending Harang to the bullpen, and calling up Matt Maloney to start in his place (you people talking about Aroldis Chapman being called up are nuts, not only is Maloney more experienced, he has better numbers).

Just as I type that, Hanigan gets a hit for the Reds.....hmmm.
  • mhs95_06
Why not have Stubbs try to lay one down more often! He beat out a routine grounder to SS on the play that Cueto ran past 2nd. Down five, lead-off batter gets on, why not try to lay one down? At least they'll have to throw him out, rather than another K!
  • mhs95_06
Tomorrow they need to keep these inattentive players from today out of the game: Phillips, Gomes, Stubbs

That would put three left handed outfielders in the game against tomorrow's lefty, but would make a point!
  • Ironman92
nono....nono....Phillips has played every inning of every game and will continue to seek down and kick Cal Ripken Jr's sorry ass.

    Interesting FACT........

Reds have played in 18 games......and the leadoff spot in the lineup has 33 strikeouts
