Rangers swipe nine bases with V-Mart behind the plate for Boston
-
newarkcatholicfanBeing so many Cleveland fans always blamed most of the bases teams were able to swipe against Cleveland pitchers and the pitching coach one can only wonder if the great Boston fans are doing the same.
-
wes_mantoothIt wasn't with Wakefield pitching was it?
-
HereticIt was with Wakefield and his 40mph knuckleball.
-
wes_mantoothoh...that makes sense then.

That being said, I'd STILL like to know WHO defended Martinez's defensive skills? Dude was a hack behind the dish throwing out runners. It WASN'T the pitcher.Heretic wrote: It was with Wakefield and his 40mph knuckleball. -
wes_mantoothI don't think anyone ever accused VMart of being a good defensive catcher....the percentages speak for themselves.
-
THE4RINGZMaybe that is why the Tribe was platooning him at first last season
I could probably steal a base on that battery -
darbypitcher22Martinez didn't have a shot most of the time last night....

Dude you are smart enough to know who always came running to his rescue when a few posters said he stunk at throwing base runners out.BR1986FB wrote:

You have for the most part always been straight up when it comes to calling it like it is. -
daveDude you are a moron
-
newarkcatholicfanComing from you that means nothing.

Five. Mickey Rivers had the rest.Sonofanump wrote: How many did Bump Wills have?
BTW...I heard that both of their "old men" threw a couple of no hitters -
HitsRusI don't know anybody who would talk about V-Mart as being a good defensive catcher. Last year he thru out only 14% of runners. In '07 and '08, he was in the 30% range...adequate at best. He was horrible in '06 at 18%.

I remember SQCrazies telling me it was all the tribe's pitchers' fault. LOL.newarkcatholicfan wrote: Being so many Cleveland fans always blamed most of the bases teams were able to swipe against Cleveland pitchers and the pitching coach one can only wonder if the great Boston fans are doing the same.
Victor was a really good hitter. His lack of running speed and his horror show behind the plate was hard to deal with. -

Oh, definitely. No matter how bad a pitcher is, if a team gives up NINE fucking steals in a game, it's because the other team has no respect for their pitcher-catcher battery...meaning that both the catcher AND pitcher suck as far as holding runners goes.BR1986FB wrote:

I'm basically guessing this thread was started as another "because 1-3 of you guys said something, I'm pretending like it was the majority so I can nitpick about how I'm smarter!" endeavor just like the "all of you who thought this team would be great" threads...when 5 people thought they'd make the playoffs and 25 were hoping for .500 or something, anything positive. I mean, "great Boston fans"? Boston fans are massive bitches who've been in the Yankees' shadow (note: I hate the Yankees...I'm not bragging on them) for ages, but think because their team has had recent success, they're the utter shit. That's how they are in all sports. -
gorocks99V Mart is already getting ripped by the Boston sports rubes for his inability to throw guys out. Trust me. The sports radio stations have been on it since the second game of the season. Pitching and defense, Theo. Pitching and defense.
