Brian Davis calls penalty on himself, loses tournament
-
mattinctownKudos to Davis for doing that, though some fan may have caught it eventually.

september63I was going to post this and forgot. Kudos to Brian Davis. He did still win 620K but didnt get the Major exemptions he would have received.
-
daveDefinitely an honorable thing to do, but for those that didn't see Davis had maybe 40ft for par before the penalty and Furyk had about 5ft. The penalty probably didn't matter.
-
Glory Dayshaha Furyk should have purposely missed his putts so they could remained tied and played another hole.
so what was the penalty, during his backswing he hit something with his club? -
Laley23It was a good call, but it didnt matter at all.
-
tk421Totally stupid rule. It had no effect on his shot at all. This is one of the things I don't like about golf.
-
Hb31187Sportsmanship is one thing ( the "rule" he broke didnt effect the shot at all btw) but this is just pure stupidity to call that on yourself.

In today's world, with all of the cameras out on the course, had he not called it and won there would have been a huge fuss made over it.Hb31187 wrote: Sportsmanship is one thing ( the "rule" he broke didnt effect the shot at all btw) but this is just pure stupidity to call that on yourself.
The rule is stupid, but it would have been a clusterfuck of epic proportions had he won then, someone comes back to that on the video (because it obviously broke the rule, albeit a stupid rule). -
tcarrier32i still dont understand what he did wrong
-
bases_loaded
He touched something( a twig) in a hazard with his backswing.tcarrier32 wrote: i still dont understand what he did wrong -
Glory Daysi just saw the video. it wasnt even really a twig, more like a piece of straw. basically had the same effect as his club nipping a tall blade of grass.
-
bases_loadedWhatever it was, he felt it was enough to call a penalty on himself and TV replays confirmed it. It sucks for Davis, but nice to see Jim win. He truly is one of the good guys in the sport and if roles were reversed I am sure he would have done the same thing.
-
darbypitcher22yeah still wouldn't have mattered after the 2nd that bounced inside the hazard line then off the rocks like 83 times
-
j_crazyi'd like to see the slow motion replay, because Live, I saw nothing.
-
golf4life2008It was nice of him to do that, but it wouldn't have mattered anyways. He knew he had no chance so it made him look like the "hero" when in all reality it was his second shot into 18 that lost him the golf tournament.
-
sleeperDumb rule, even dumber to call it on yourself.
-
Swamp FoxI don't think it was stupid of him to call the penalty on himself. Whether it effected the outcome or not, it was the right thing to do. They say golf is a game of etiquette. It's about time we actually saw a little civility and class in action.

yeah, i think i agree with what they said on PTI. the PGA should reward him and give him the exemption to the tournament he would have had if he won.Swamp Fox wrote: I don't think it was stupid of him to call the penalty on himself.
