Old franchises that haven't won in a long time
-
NonReally no point to this other than to point it out.
I'd say these are the most alarming droughts.
MLB
Cleveland Indians 1947
Chicago Cubs 1908
San Francisco/New York Giants 1954
...nice pitching staff currently...may have a chance to contend with an extra bat or two
NFL
Buffalo Bills 1965 (AFL)
Miami Dolphins 1973
...The Dolphins won back-to-back Super Bowls in '72 and '73 and looked like a juggernaut. They lost to Oakland in a classic playoff game in '74 and haven't won a championship since then.
New York Jets 1968
...Way to go Joe Namath but that was a long time ago.
Cleveland Browns 1964
...Imagine being around during this time as a Browns fan. No way would you have thought they would not win a championship game for the next 46 years and counting.
Kansas City Chiefs 1969
Oakland Raiders 1983
...The Raiders have been stuck on three for awhile.
Philadelphia Eagles 1960
Chicago Bears 1985
...This powerful team only managed this one big year.
Detroit Lions 1957
NBA
New York Knicks 1973
...Madison Square Garden, the mecca of basketball. The Knicks haven't won since the Willis Reed days.
NHL
Philadelphia Flyers 1975
Boston Bruins 1972
Toronto Maple Leafs 1967
Chicago Blackhawks 1961
...All of these are really kind of surprising when you think about the history.
A few others to note
MLB
Baltimore Orioles 1983
Detroit Tigers 1984
Kansas City Royals 1985
New York Mets 1986
...Similar to the Bears. The Mets were the team in that 1986 year but only got one.
Pittsburgh Pirates 1979
Los Angeles Dodgers 1988
NBA
Philadelphia 76ers 1983
Milwaukee Bucks 1971
Washington Bullets/Wizards 1978
Portland Trail Blazers 1977
NHL
New York Islanders 1983
...They've been kind of a bottom feeder for the last couple decades which makes it seem strange that they actually won four Stanley Cups in a row from 1980-1983. -
wildcats20Um....NBA....Cavs...since 1970...never won anything. I'd say 39 years is a drought.
But I also see you listed teams that have actually won a championship. -
SQ_CraziesThe Cavs aren't really that old of a franchise either.
-
NonYeah I just listed teams that have won in the past.
Certainly there are some old franchises that haven't won ever.
Utah Jazz have been in the playoffs 24 of the last 27 years without winning the title.
St. Louis Blues have made the playoffs 34 times in 41 years but no Stanley Cup banner. -
wildcats20Not to pick on the Cavs, I just found it funny they weren't listed. Then I realized the teams listed had previously won a championship.
Other teams....
Clippers...same as Cavs. 39 years and 0 championships.
Nuggets...joined NBA in '76...0 rings
Suns...joined NBA in '68...0 rings
Jazz...started in '74...0 rings -
hoops23Indians won in '48, not '47.
come on man! -
GeneralsIcer89Hoping the Blackhawks lose badly in the playoffs. Don't want my Leafs to have the longest streak.
-
Al CaponeFinally a list that Cleveland dominates.
-
Heretic
Those two teams need to check and see if their buildings are built on indian graveyards or something. To make the playoffs that often and never win a title...that has to be the result of some curse.Non wrote: Yeah I just listed teams that have won in the past.

End of Line
It's alirght. I expect them to get bounced by Detroit.GeneralsIcer89 wrote: Hoping the Blackhawks lose badly in the playoffs. Don't want my Leafs to have the longest streak. -
BR1986FBNot to change topics but Mike & Mike kind of put a spin on this today. They said, depending on perspective, the NY Knicks are the worst team in sports in the last 10 years. Their reasoning was that the Knicks have spent more money in the last 10 years and TRIED to win but haven't won a playoff game (only made it once with a losing record in a league where over half the teams make it). The Pirates have been inept but they don't spend money and the Lions have been inept but are on the same playing field (all teams have a salary cap) as the others.

killer_ewokMy Knicks have been awful. Just one nightmare after another.
Bring back Charles Oakley, Anthony Mason, Patrick Ewing, John Starks, etc. Sure, they're ancient now but they'd probably play for less money and get similar results to what the Knicks have done the last 10 years.....
