It was a clean hit. It doesn't help the fact that Sutton is 6'6 and leopold is what 6'1? Either way whoever Sutton hits it will always look like and elbow to the head (unlike Pronger where he actually hits people with elbows). Orpik even said that it was a clean hit.
What that hit did was wake the team up and they played lights out the rest of the night. -

Expert or not, it's pretty obvious that he hit Leopold with an elbow and if you look at the still shot I posted, Sutton doesn't have that elbow tucked, it's extended.........PURPOSELY. If you watch the hit again in slow motion, Sutton not only uses his elbow, but follows through with it to the point that he leaves his feet.
He will get his, maybe not in this series but next year, when he least expects it, bam! -

Hadn't seen the hit until just now but 99% of the feelings on the play that I have read say his elbow was at his side and the hit was not dirty. After watching the play I'll go with the 99%. Dudes elbow was tucked against his body the whole time. Just a hit you see in hockey a million times. Leopold was skating with his head down and got lit up. What part of the upper-body do you check someone with. Your chest??? Hit em with your back???
If you think there should be a suspension for that then my advice to you is to tune in for the NBA playoffs, whch started today.....
I guess I shouldn't expect anything but mindless homering on this site, but come on. Not every injury requires a suspension.... -

Umm even the announcers were calling for a suspension. IMO I don't think he should be. It was a bang bang play. You could argue that he extended on purpose and then you could argue against it.

After looking at the pic it does look like he goes to put the elbow up, but like I said...it could be argued either way. Regardless Sutton is still a goon, he was playing dirty like a bitch the entire game. -

Ive heard more people say it was a clean hit than say it wasnt. Ive seen it live and it didnt look too dirty, just a bit unfortunate.
That said, no one ever will know what was going through Sutton's head, but he could have lifted his shoulder a LOT higher if he wanted to do more damage. The picture doesnt really prove much. It is away from his body slightly, but hardly extended. I think everyone has their arms out away from there body slightly when they make a hit.
The only thing curious is Suttons past. -
