That was a great article. Would love to hear the Boston Fans on this boards thoughts on what he said.

As is usually the case, I tend to agree with Bill Simmons. When the signed Sheed in the offseason I had my doubts, living w/ a Pistons fan and severely hating Rasheed's antics the past few years. The guy has brought nothing to the table. Nothing. The team hasn't won one game BECAUSE of Sheed. In spite of, yes, but because of, no.

Have to blame the poor Celtics on someone, might as well be Sheed.

To be fair, Simmons IS the same guy who predicted a Celtics title because of 'Sheed.

That go to be the longest article in history. I felt like I was in class :).

Nah that was a short one for Simmons haha.

Simmons is a voluminous writer, always has been. The Sheed acquisition set the tone for this year, but for me the signal for the end of this era for the Celtics was the Finley deal. That was a team falling apart at the seams due to injuries and age and they make a move to get even older? Made no sense.

Hmm.. I guess he isn't a fan of Sheed anymore.

I don't recall him ever being a fan of Sheed or the signing in general.

He did predict that the Lakers would meet the Celtics in the Finals though.

    That was pretty funny.

My bad, I thought somebody said he picked the Celtics to win because the Sheed signing put them over the top.

He actually predicted San Antonio over Boston in 6, which is even funnier than picking the Lakers.

He picked Celtics and Spurs in his pre-season column, and specifically noted the Wallace signing as making this the deepest team the Big 3 has played on, which was his reasoning for the pick.

Since it became obvious that pick was a disaster, he's gone with both the Cavs and Lakers at one point or another. Last I remember I think he was picking Cleveland.

I like Simmons, but he tends to toot his own horn too much when he's right, i.e. his Durant over Oden weekly mention is becoming annoying, and not acknowledge when he's been way off, i.e. this instance and he destroyed the Magic for picking Howard over Okafur.

To be fair, here's what he wrote about Sheed in his preview:
    24. Rasheed Wallace
Am I excited about Sheed turning Boston into the biggest ref-baiting, trash-talking, fan-unfriendly, swaggeracious (I just made up that word) NBA team since the 1992 Knicks? Actually, not really. If you are not a Celtics fan, instinctively, you will dislike the 2009-10 Celtics. Sheed is going to exacerbate every already-annoying quality they had. There will not be a more unpopular opponent in the league. You will see a steady stream of violent chest bumps, screams to the ceiling, angry nodding, eye bulging, intimidating looks, hard fouls, low-scoring games and everything else you'd ever hate about a basketball team. They will feed off your negative energy, live for it, seek it, thrive on it. That's how the season will go.

Is this a good thing? Yes and no. If it's a 67-win team, then, yes. I will put up with it. (And probably enjoy it. It's always fun to root for an Eff You team that's pulling off the Eff You. Don't let anyone tell you differently.) But if it's a 54-win team that looks old on back-to-backs, seems like more sizzle than steak, can't figure out its roles, and spends too much time in petty little battles with opponents and refs (and by the way, Doc Rivers was the No. 1 ref-baiting coach in the league last season), then, no, it's probably not a good thing. So we will see.

(Just because you asked: Does it feel strange to root for someone who once uttered the words, "As long as somebody CTC, at the end of the day I'm with them. For all you that don't know what CTC means, that's 'Cut The Check.'" Yes. Yes it does. Especially since he might be washed up. And we DID cut the check. For three freaking years.)

    (Deep sigh.)

(It's too early to worry about this. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts.)

There was one article, where he was with one of his friends that was a Lakers fan, and they were atching the Lakers game, and he said something like:

"'We will see you in June,' I said. And we will."
