Browns vs Lions

mhs95_06Does the NFL even have a rule that says what to do for the case in which the clock runs out on a play in which both there is a defensive foul which gives an untimed play and an offensive injury when the offensive team doesn't have any time outs left and there is no time left on the clock? If the NFL doesn't have a specific rule for that you'd think they might after this! What would it be? Would it nullify the opportunity for an untimed play?
Is the bone of contention, that you all are saying the Browns got hosed with the game result, the fact that they let Stafford back in the game for the game winning TD play, or the interderence call? It will probably be his last play of the season, and if it is it will be a very memorable one for him! -
George CostanzaCleveland has several legit grips on that final drive.
-
wes_mantoothYeah.....Bruce will probably blow an O ring tonight.
-
se-alumI agree that there is no way you can judge Quinn based on today. However, Mangini may have set this team back another year by playing DA. Quinn has had as many starts as Stafford has, which is not enough time to judge a QB.
-
charliehustle14Yeah I've never seen PI called on a last second 'punt' throw, either. That ball was lobbed 40 yards straight up into the air with about 5 or 6 players waiting on it to come down.
-
Cleveland BuckWhen the Lions marched down field like a hot knife through butter to make it 24-10 I knew we had no chance to win. Terrible officiating at the end, but whatever. No matter what they still got one more play and there was no way we were stopping it.
This is the first game that they let Quinn play. We don't really know anything about him yet. He played very well, and if he plays well the rest of the season then he might be a long term answer if we can put some talent around him. -

No I agree. Browns fans are passionate and intelligent (most) and most of their gripes on the show are legitimate. But the Browns suck so much that it's still entertaining.Fab4Runner wrote:
This is legit bitching. No way pass interference should have been called and no way should a 4th timeout have been called. Unreal.chicago510 wrote: Can't wait to hear Bruce on STO tonight.
Not a Cleveland fan at all, but hearing Browns fan vent is one of my forms of entertainment. -

Maybe other teams defensive players are smarter than the Browns'. Just because you usually don't see PI called on "hail marys" doesn't mean it shouldn't be called if it happens! Just because you don't see NBA officials call fouls in the last 3 seconds, doesn't mean it's not the right thing to do!charliehustle14 wrote: Yeah I've never seen PI called on a last second 'punt' throw, either. DA also had Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow and Joe Jurevicous.Skyhook79 wrote: "Brady Quinn plays much better than DA could ever play."
I guess you didn't watch any of the 2007 season or the Giants game last year????
DAQ had games just like this too against better competition also.
Both are bad and if your judging Quinn based on this game, I question your football IQ.
Brady has............ -
Strapping Young LadUnbelievable ending...the Browns snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. At least this won't hurt your chances of a top 5 pick.
-
Dr JonesBeing a lions fan I am happy as hell for the win...... But these were the two WORST defensive team I have ever seen.....Oh well hope stafford is OK just means clevland will pick before detroit...
prob Cleveland #1 Detroit # 2....lol -

I don't know about the Lions, but the Browns have really been hurt by injuries. They were serviceable the first part of the year, until they got worn out of course. But these were the two WORST defensive team I have ever seen -
darbypitcher22I thought there was supposed to be a runoff if you have no Timeouts left... meaning time would have run off and Detroit wouldn't have been able to snap the ball...
-
I drain 3'sWhile I agree that they probably should have never called the pass interference, the players should have never put themselves in a position for the ref to make a call like that. One dude tackled I believe Calvin Johnson before the ball got there, and another pushed a different receiver out of the back of the endzone while face guarding them. Where in the hell did any of them ever learn to do something like that? Never put yourself in a position for a referee to decide the outcome of a game, or things like this will happen.
-
KnightXC1^^ A runoff for what? They spiked the ball with 8 seconds and ran a play.
It may have been ugly but that was an entertaining game. I feel so bad for Browns fans right now as they just can't catch a break on anything. It was a good call in the endzone though since Calvin did get undercut. I hope Stafford is alright but by the looks of things I won't be surprised at all if he broke his clavicle or seperated his shoulder. Only the Lions could be happy about doubling their win total with this game but I will take it. -
equusI saw a Lions fan holding a sign, and I have adopted it for my new mantra:
1-9
Still My Team
I am a glutton for punishment... -
I drain 3'sAlso, if you look at the play-by-play according to ESPN, it was Cleveland that called a timeout, not Detroit, thus allowing Stafford to come back in and no run off.

ricolaanother good reason for the Browns to lose...the more losses they have, they better chance mangenius won't be around next year.
-
KnightXC1The last timeout was called by the Browns, not the Lions so their is no reason to be upset with the officials. Calvin was clearly interfered with in the endzone and Stafford was allowed to come back out for the final play because the Browns called timeout.
-
JugheadWhy the hell would the Browns call a timeout? That just seems like the NFL trying to cover up their mistakes.
I don't care about the Browns or any NFL team one bit. I just despise officiating that changes the outcome of a ballgame. -

If you read my post, I also go on to say that BQ is overrated as well.bo shemmy3337 wrote:lhslep134 wrote: Browns lose assuring a higher draft pick.
Brady Quinn plays much better than DA could ever play.
Seems like a win-win to me. We can no longer worry about drafting McCoy or another overrated quarterback (we don't need more than one). Now we can draft a defensive player.
I've already given up hope for this season, and this is the best thing that could have happened in my opinion.
So you are sold on Quinn because he had a good day against the Lions?
That being said, of course you can't just be sold after 1 game.
But, I am sold on the fact that the Browns can now, as a team, rally around Quinn and hopefully drive DA out of town.
Skyhook: Yes I watched DA in 2007. And if you watched him too, you'd also realize he led the league in interception/sack ratio and was last in the league in not only completion percentage but also completion percentage on <15 yard routes.
So yes, I watched DA, and yes he's worse than Brady.
Any other questions skyhook? You going to question my football IQ? Because yours is extremely shoddy if you think DA had anything more than a decent year in 2007. 29 TDs is nice, but not last in the league in completion % and INT/sack ratio. -
bigyellowmaker12At least they Browns are still in contention for the #1 overall draft pick.
-
KnightXC1Jughead - The Lions were at the line of scrimmage for the final play at the 1 yard line when the Browns called timeout, most likely because they saw how the Lions were set up and wanted to have the right play in place. There is no conspiracy at the end of the game, Stafford got off to the sidelines after the play without a stoppage, the PI call was correct, and the Browns called the last timeout.
-
krazie45I disagree, the PI call was not correct. The ball was nowhere near the "interfered" receiver and was intercepted a good 8 yards in front of him. Plus you could call that on every last second lob ever, because everyone always goes up fighting for the ball. It was a bad call at that stage of the game.

Yes, and if not interfered with could have made it that 8 yards before the ball came down!krazie45 wrote: I disagree, the PI call was not correct.
