New Jersey Nets to make a run at Krzyzewski?

  • BR1986FB
This should be interesting. He turned down the chance to coach Kobe for a lot less money....

    12-15 million per?
  • BR1986FB
    That's huge dinero...
  • Big Red Monster
If he really gets offered that much, I dont know how he could turn it down.
  • Nate
He's always said he LOVES Duke. I don't think money matters to him. This is just another attempt of the media to get more leverage for LeBron to leave Cleveland. This was brought up a couple months ago and now that Duke is in the finals, they will bring it up again.
  • Big Red Monster
Does he really love Duke enough to turn down 15 million a year?
  • jordo212000
Yeah this was brought up a while back. Although I do not think he was being offered $12-$15 million haha. Wow. That is a lot of money. Prokhorev definitely seems like the type of owner I'd want running my team. I could tell from that 60 minutes piece on him that he was going to shake up the NBA

WOW! I don't necessarily love coach K, but I doubt he loves Duke enough to turn down that kind of money.

I wouldn't be surprised if Duke took him from 2.5 (or whatever he makes now) up to 5 and he stayed.

    Coach K is going nowhere.

This is equivalent to the media constantly bringing up Lebron to NY.

If Duke wins tonight, I think Coach K will seriously consider an NBA jump.
  • enigmaax
I think this will be interesting only because the guy has had a couple years to sample the role of NBA coach and obviously did well. He never seemed to indicate he wanted anything more than to win a shit ton of games at Duke year in and year out and in that regard, he seemed like the one college coach (if no other) who wouldn't fall for that big money, big challenge lure of the NBA.

What I wonder is whether coaching the Olympics answered any shred of doubt in his mind as to whether he'd ever try to make the jump. Maybe it piqued his interest. Maybe it was a cool short term gig that satisifed any thoughts he may have had about ever wanting something else.

He either wants to try something else or he doesn't and based on the public impression he's made over the last 30 years or whatever, I think the ridiculous amount of money would be more of a nice by-product than a motivating factor.

listening on cowherd and he said something to the effect of "the nets could possibly have lebron, bosh, lopez, harris, and wall. why wouldn't coach k go there?"

i know lebron/cavs fanboys would hate to hear it, but that is possible. how awesome would that team be?
  • Prescott
Cowherd also made this claim: Krzyzewski will never catch Wooden. He will always be regarded as the 2nd or 3rd best COLLEGE coach of all time. If he goes to the NBA and wins. He could be regarded as one of the GREATEST coaches of all time, regardless of sport.
  • j_crazy
yeah i caught that. it doesn't make any sense, but little of what cowherd says (opinion wise) does.

the fact remains that lebron and bosh could go to NJ and if they get wall that starting 5 is pretty badass.

I dont know about Coach K, but Id leave Barcelona, Spain to go to Onega, Russia for that kind of money.

  • Azubuike24
Why would he not issue that type of statement at this point?

and i'm pretty sure that saban issued a similar statement while on a plane bound for alabama.
  • hoops23
Coach K isn't leaving Duke, sorry.

He said earlier in the season when these rumors first came up that he was "Net interested in the job"...
  • devil1197
Even if he is interested, he isn't going to say so while his team is preparing for the title game.

I have heard a lot of coaches lately that said they aren't interested in a job, then a couple days later there is a press conference.
  • mattinctown
He's not going anywhere, he's got a ton of money already, LOVES Duke, and if he wouldn't leave for the Lakers/Kobe, he's not going to leave now, despite major chedda being offered.
  • SQ_Crazies
He's not leaving, not even for that money. It's not about the money, he's got more than he'll ever spend already.

The faster NBA franchises realize this the better---then we won't have this story every fuckin' year.
  • Prescott
yeah i caught that. it doesn't make any sense,
I think it does make sense. A new challenge for a profession that is ego-driven.
  • thedynasty1998
At some point, there has to be an amount of money that makes it very tempting. Whether or not it's $12-$15 million, we will know soon enough.
  • Heretic
Brad Stevens must have a relative or close friend who owes him a favor working for the upper-level sports media.

While MSU is preparing for Butler, suddenly rumors about Oregon having interest in Izzo come out. Now, rumors of the Nets having interest in K are coming out while Duke's getting ready for the Bulldogs.

It's the only logical solution! ;)
