Really not surprised at all the way he lives his life with the narcotics and et al.

Very sad to hear. Glad I went to see him in Pittsburgh last June.

CBS has confirmed it with LAPD, if TMZ wasn't believable.

tom petty no longer dead per LAPD.

Another case of the media wanting to be first instead of right? Although it sounds like he could be pronounced anytime.

Be great if those reporting it prematurely for the bang would be terminated from their jobs

To be fair, cardiac arrest is in most cases “dead”. I haven’t read the articles, but the headlines say cardiac arrest. We just happen to have drugs and defibrillators that make it possible to attain ROSC.

Terri Schiavo and Charlie Gard were alive too, until pulled off life support.

"Petty’s manager, Tony Dimitriades, had confirmed the musician’s death."

When they were pulled off life support, did the media say "omg theyre dead!" or did they actually wait for them to die?

Spun some of his vinyl last night, including the '76 debut album. A lot of great songs.

He was one of the all time greats. A great songwriter with one of the best voices in rock n roll. A legend.

Tom Petty was one of the unique, great voices. Very distinct. For some reason, listening to him always put me in a better mood, regardless of what song or the tone/pace of the music.

A few others have that ability, just based on voice and nothing else:

    Van Morrison
    Cat Stevens
    Frankie Valli

    To a lesser degree:

    MJ
    Rod Stewart
    Freddie Mercury

i put Tom in the catagory with Paul Stanley and Bob Dylan......terrible singers that got away with it.

He's a great singer. His sound is unique, not classical. Listen to "Wildflowers" and tell me Tom Petty didn't
have a wonderful voice. Beautiful song.
