Who's had a worse summer? The Ohio State Fair or the Cleveland Cavs
  • cat_lover
The answer is the Detroit Tigers.

    Boom goes the dynamite.

My Facebook newsfeed is full of Monday morning QBs saying that's why you don't ride carnival rides.

Lol holy shit. How does that even happen

I don't disagree with them. The people working those rides aren't the best of the best.

i wasn't thinking "lol", but to each their own

appears that that section of seats hit the base of the ride on the upswing

Whenever you have the chance to poke fun of a professional sports franchise (significantly better than Detroit) at the expense of somebody dying (amongst the numerous injured) in a tragic accident you gotta do it.

Somehow you get older by age, yet you still act like a child. Grow up.

So sad and scary. I was at Cedar Point yesterday when I saw the news, and while I trust Cedar Fair a whole lot more than random carnival workers, it still made me think about how badly things could end if something broke or malfunctioned. :(

I am not sure when the last time I rode something at a fair or carnival was, but I definitely used to all the time when I was a kid.

The last time I rode a thrill ride at the Ohio State Fair? I remember it well - the Zipper in 1986.

I saw the video last night - it was like bad dreams I had back in the day about being in a roller coaster that careens off the edge of the track - that awful feeling of being flung into space and being helpless to do anything about it.

Very sad event. Going to the fair Sunday to see "Fluffy." Could care less about the rides.

I love the zipper. I think i read recently that they had to retire it because they couldn't find parts anymore.

The only time I've ever been on a malfunctioning ride was actually at Cedar Point (Mean Streak, luckily it was after the ride and very minor - they couldn't get the cars to lock in and therefore release the restraints for a good 15 minutes)

Unfortunately it's going to happen, it's something mechanical that's worked pretty damn hard. They said there were no issues on the inspection, so who knows.

Will it stop me from riding something at a fair, or letting my kids once they're that age? Doubt it. But there's always that very small chance something goes to shit

More likely to die in a car accident than on a ride at the fair.

In HS, my buddies and I used to help take down the Cuyahoga County Fair rides. We were idiots and had no clue what we were doing, yet they paid us to help take down rides. Completely inappropriate, but probably the only way they can run a fair at a price that attracts people. I would not ride a fair ride, particularly one that goes high into the air.

    Please.

You laugh at people's deaths. I'm not laughing at their death.
