Credit score

  • bigdaddy2003
I'm finally getting my life set up how I want to it be and having just downloaded Credit Karma, I just wondered, is your credit score, good or bad?
  • Laley23
    Good.
  • SportsAndLady
    720'ish
  • Belly35
Wife credit score is a lttle better than mine but both are very good....
  • Fab4Runner
    Good.
  • Automatik
    716 last I checked.

    What do I win?

Very good. I've heard they may soon be changing the way they score credit. For instance, in the past, closing credit cards may have lowered your score, where it may not now.

Wife and I are both between 790 and 810 depending on which credit report you look at (Experian, TransUnion, etc)

Mine was about 760ish last time I checked a few months ago.

Capital one tells me i have 763/850.

Don't the official credit agencies have different ranges? (Like one is out of 850 and another is out of 750)

And maybe this is only funny to me, but capital one has several categories that they grade you on. For oldest account i only have a "good" rating. My oldest account is 23 years old. Not sure how i can fix that without a time machine.

wife and I had 812 and 820 last time we checked

    710. If I'm not looking to make a major life change (new job, house, car, etc) in the next few years does it really matter?

Not all credit scores are calculated the same way and not all companies use the same credit score. It's best to know from whom you are seeking credit what score it is they use and what their ranges of determination are for applying their respective interest rates.

The Fair Issac Corporation use to be the standard with their FICO score but that's not the case anymore. FICO was weighted based on the amount of your debt = 30%, payment history = 35%, length of credit history = 15%, your credit mix = 10% and new credit = 10%.

If I could go back and talk with my younger self, this would be one of the topics I would raise. In my mid-twenties, I did some things that really hurt my credit. It took my quite a while to pull out of that. Nowadays, my credit is excellent. But I cringe when I think of extra interest I have had to pay over the years because of this problem.

^^maybe our brilliant education system should add this to a finance class that should be mandatory for all juniors/ seniors in high school.

Mine is 800ish last time I got a loan. It helped that my parents gave me a credit card when I was 16 to pay for gas and small items to build up credit history.

Generally, if you comfortably at 760+ you should be able to qualify for the best mortgage rate.

The banks can ding you for a lot of stupid stuff - average balances over 60% PER CARD (instead of like, you know, total available credit). Credit inquiries when you apply for those stupid store cards to get the discount.

Yeah, my senior year of college I didn't return the cable box and they were mailing me letters to that house that I obviously moved out of. Sent a collections for $300. Between that and missing a few student loan payments right out of college, my score was awful. Happy with where it's at now.

I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life and to be honest the thing that I am embarking on now isn't my top choice but there is pretty decent money involved, so it's ok.

Plus universities should not allow banks on campus to market their credit cards to college students.
