Has there been any proof that he actually stole a poster?gut;1859653 wrote:Hate to say it, but while this is a horrible tragedy, if you look around the world I don't think the UN will lose any sleep over one guy who should have known better than to go to NK and commit petty theft.
This happened right after the US sanctioned NK and we all know how they love their bs propaganda over there. -

"Hey guys, let's show how big our dicks are by bombing a country that's within close proximity to two large countries we tend to have questionable diplomatic relations with on a good day! WHAT COULD GO WRONG!!!!!"
I don't know who this Otto dude is, but he is, by no means, a big enough fish to decide to start tossing bombs around as a way to avenge his loss. -
justincredibleYeah, while this is certainly a tragic event, and NK's treatment of him is reprehensible, I'm not about to start WWIII over this.

This falls firmly under "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes." -
ptown_trojans_1Tragic indeed.
But, the ones calling for bombing fails to understand the strategic situation in the Koreas.
Any military action by the U.S. will immediately lead to North Korean launching all of their artillery and short rage rockets on Seoul.
The DPRK also has a lot of mobile solid fueled rockets that could quickly be launched at U.S. forces in South Korea and Japan, and even Guam.
So, while it would be easy to say bomb them, there are no good options, and it would leave a lot of South Korean and U.S. soldiers dead.
That is why the policy has largely sucked and remained the same over the past 30 years. -
Con_AlmaAs stated, bombing DPRK fir the treatment of this U.S. citizen would be foolish. We've got some different hot concerns right now with Iran and Russia not liking our taking out a Syrian fighter plane recently.
-
Con_Alma...and shooting down an Iranian made drone now.

I'm all for taking out the leader but bombing them probably isn't prudent. Would I care if the US wiped them off the map? Not really but the problem with bombing them is that, once you do, all Hell/chaos breaks loose. Assuming they have nuclear technology, what's to stop one of these extremist groups (ISIS) from getting their grubby mitts on it? They need to somehow find a way to eliminate the leader.Spock;1859663 wrote:one of ours, 10,000 of theirs

BR1986FBThe key to NK is the Chinese, who don't seem to want to do shit about Fat Boy and his crew. Without starting an all-out war, the easiest way to get the Chinese to perk up is to freeze all of their financial holdings in the US. At least I think that might get their attention.
-
friendfromlowryAre we discussing bombing them for any reason other than spock/salto suggested it???

Yeah, we have a bad history of trying to do that...see Castro....like_that;1859788 wrote:Can somebody just send a fucking spy to poison this fat mother fucker?
China is just fine with the status quo and really does not want to change anything. A failed or collapsed DPRK means a huge amount of refugees pouring into their country, something they do not want. On the other hand, a reunited Korea, would no doubt be a U.S. ally as the South would lead most of the country. The Chinese would not like another U.S. ally right next door. So, they are ok with the current policy and which is why they never put real pressure on the DPRK.BR1986FB;1859793 wrote:The key to NK is the Chinese, who don't seem to want to do shit about Fat Boy and his crew. I'm also not sure freezing all the Chinese holdings is a good idea. The last thing I really want to do as our economy is just meh is start a trade or economic war with China. We all lose in that regard as the U.S. markets would no doubt take a hit and the price of goods I'm sure would rise. -
Con_AlmaAbout the best the U.S. can do right now is include/consult China on implementing a U.N. Security Council resolution that is intended to restrict revenue and technology for North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. There have been some suggestions of putting sanctions on Chinese companies that do business with North Korea but that would be a really, really bad idea. China is a necessary evil for us. They are killing us in the cyber war but still are an enormous economy that we have to function with. If the U.S. ever crumbles, I think it will be because a large economy like China eats us alive.
