We ALREADY have thousands of gun laws. Criminals already have hundreds of thousands of guns - making guns illegal or more gun laws is not going to change that. No one is advocating no regulation or no laws. Sometimes you have laws so you can punish and lock-up the cirminals, not because said laws prevent the crime.
Do you agree laws occasionally deter crimes?

Trying to figure out where in the 2nd Amendment it actually refers to tyranny. Everything seems to point towards individual self-defense rights against assault.

    I do, occasionally.

Would you agree that you're moving the goalposts?

    On a funny aside...

I was visiting China a few days after the mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado. I was talking the wife of my host. She was a very sweet, soft spoken lady. She asked me several questions about mass shootings in the US. I answered them and then asked her, "Are there ever any mass shooting incidents in China?"

She was almost shocked by my question and quickly replied, "Oh no. It's not allowed."

I've always chuckled when thinking about this.

That would probably be comforting here for the lazy and stupid who are OK with others living their life for them.

I didn't share the story as a political statement. I just always thought it was funny how she said that it "wasn't allowed" there - as though it's allowed elsewhere.

    Perfect comparison. Well done.

Well, not sure if a perfect comparison. Your comment made me think of the video. Both your comment and my video are about people who more often than not, follow rules.

I saw a shirt in Europe that said in the front:

    In Heaven:
    The Italians make the food
    The Swiss handle the money
    The police are all English
    The wine is all French
    The Irish tell the stories
And it's all organized by the Germans

    Then on the back:

    In Hell:
    The Entlish make the food
    The Italians handle the money
    The wine is all Dutch
The Swiss tell all the stories
    The police are all German
And its all organized by the Irish

    Strong rebuttal.
If the "mere existence" is a "deterrent of tyranny" Who defines Tyrannical and when can citizens actually use their guns as force to protect? I still feel gun fanatics use a distorted interpretation of the 2nd Amendment to justify their wants.

Suppose it means I'm taking the 2nd amendment for granted because I believe it's outdated.
Well, your belief is wrong. I find this "belief" to be extremely disconcerting because it either represents a complete failure of our education system to instill value for principles our country was founded on, or represents an indoctrination in alternate social theories that are contrary to the concepts of liberty and freedom.
If you actually studied the origins of our Constitution...and you value where it comes from, you would understand that it is based on the tendencies and "progression" of governments, the laws of human nature, and the natural rights of man. These were discussed and formulated by the great thinkers of the Enlightenment....Locke, Hume, Montesquieu, Pope, Kant....They illuminated and enumerated the very nature of humanity and of our governments...and these truths do not change even as man progresses technologically, and as a society. What motivates us now as in the past, is a constant. Human nature...and the nature and tendencies of governments do not change. Nor do our natural rights as human beings change. They are immutable....and we own them as a birthright "endowed by our creator"...not bestowed or granted to us by our governments.

So... " Who defines Tyrannical and when can citizens actually use their guns as force to protect?"
I suppose I could give an adequate answer like "it's hard to define but I'll know it when I see it." But really I think it can be defined a lot easier than that. I think it would involve a history of abuse of the citizenry's "natural rights".....e.g. unjustified searches and seizures, suppression of free speech, etc etc...... if you want some good examples see The Declaration of Independence.

You seem to have a real problem understanding the 2nd amendment and the need for it today .... you think the "gun fanatics" "don't want to be bothered by regulations. " ????...
I think that the vast majority of gun owners are respectful of the many regulations that are already in place. ...and simply don't want more regulations that aren't going to do any do any good. If you really get down to it, most of this is simply politically driven...politicians playing on the ignorance and fears of people to get votes.

But I get it....you, as well as a lot of others who have been indoctrinated into the liberal thinking that we have evolved enough that we don't need all these "dangerous guns" in our society.....that's because you don't understand where the 2nd Amendment comes from.
Write this down and repeat it....the 2nd amendment comes from your natural right to self defense, because if you understand human nature, you'll realize, that no matter how many laws are passed, there are those who will ignore them and break the law, and they will do you harm if it is to their advantage. You have the natural right...bestowed upon you at birth by your creator(not your government), to protect yourself (and by extension, your family) from individual who will do you harm, as well as unjust governments.

I actually think you understand this...you just haven't put 2+2 together....
We have laws against rape, murder and theft yet those laws are rarely followed by rapists, murderers and thieves. Point is, criminals exist in society and are the reason we need laws or regulations in the first place.

....but in the end, the laws don't really protect you, they only allow society to prosecute the people who have already damaged you.
