Wife came home today and her friend was at Menards today. She spent $200 with her husband and left....in parking lot a security person comes up to her and insists she stole a large drill bit and she had to go back inside....she denies having any drill bit and he turns angry with her and she agrees to go back in....once inside they cleared out all of her stuff and no bit...they recheck the cameras and got the wrong lady. They simply told her she could leave....no apology no gift card for inconvenience....nothing.

Menards will never see them again for sure.

Hey apple, I hacked their system to get you a little leverage for the 12ver I owed you.

    You are welcome.

You think they are going to find you to make it right, if they overcharged you?

I believe honesty the best policy.... However I'm all about fair play and don't do me wrong and expect me to do you right.
The banks are a example: they will charge you for everything , rules are in their favor. Years ago starting my business I over drafted our account. My mistake however I had just open this account and set up a business wanting to use this bank as my primary banker. Three checks totaling less than 90.00 overdraft the fee was $20.00 per check. They did not waiver those fees. Few months later same bank screwed up my wife direct deposit took two weeks to figure out what they did wrong. Was I able to charge them a wtf fee of 20.00 per ...no. Same bank years later ATM machine first began ... When to the ATM wanted 60.00 bucks got 80.00 ... Good deal minutes later tried a gain Wanted 40.00 got 60.00 WOW.... Not wanting to push my luck I drove away feeling good that revenge is sweet. Bottom line is I've never had a problem with Menards so I would make a effort to correct the issue .... I play my way and don't need to be dishonest and cheap.

I can't stand banks. I hate everything about them. There's nothing I need from a bank that I cant get through my brokerage account with the exception of accessing cash quickly. I solve that by keeping a checking account at a credit union.

Re the original post....I would definitely go back in and get the error fixed.

I would've lost my mind if this happened to me. Especially no apology? Their corporate offices would've received a call.

Yes, darn those for-profit banks making money off consumers.

Was cashier nice or bitch/dick? Probably coming out of their paycheck, and at $130 I'd feel bad if they did everything right and the machine simply fucked up. Probably still driving home, but that would be the only hold up I'd be thinking about.

    I don't believe that's legal, but I am not 100% sure.

    Makes sense.

But they can probably be fired over it, at some point. So kinda the same principle. They are, at the very least, going be be reprimanded pretty hard for that amount of unaccounted for inventory.

I really don't think they'd even be able to track it that closely. Maybe a Mom and Pop store would care, but a giant business like Menard's probably wouldn't bat an eye at that small of amount to try and go back and find it. And if it was all actually scanned, the employee wouldn't be at fault and the inventory would be properly accounted for. Maybe items were on sale and just weren't labeled correctly on the shelf.

Turnabout is fair play ... dont you think.
I'm all for profit ... but profit the right way and be honest when wrong.

Two weeks to correct a issue, my wife was without the usage of her money because of their internial mishandling of accounts.

The cashier pointed the scanner at all the PCU bar codes on all of the items from the cart. 2 out of 3 items did not get registered. I am thinking it was a mechanical problem, however, the cashier was also at fault for not making sure each item showed up as having been scanned before moving on to the next item to scan.

btw... My friend went back in and paid for it.

I was talking about the OD fees.

The 2 week issue shouldn't be acceptable.

If it's a couple bucks, I probably wouldn't go back in. I'd just take the win.

But $130? I'd probably go back in. I don't want the cashier to get their ass chewed out over it, because in the grand scheme, that's who gets hurt if I leave.
like_that;1857969 wrote:Also, reverse the roles. If you overpaid and left without knowing, would they go out of their way to tell you? My guess is probably not.
Probably not, and it makes them dicks.

Exactly. In the grand scheme, the store isn't going to feel it. Only the employee will.

I left Home Depot about a month ago and thought my bill seemed a little light so I tried adding up the items in my head as I drove home to rough in the charge. Once home I pulled the receipt and I think it was about $28 short. At that point I debated driving back but did not; still felt odd. So, last week I bought a dishwasher there and I figure they more than made up for it with the profit on that order.

I don't usually examine my receipts. You win some, you lose some. That's what I would figure.

I've told cashiers they've missed scanning something if I saw it while standing there. But now if I walked out with something without paying - a.k.a [stole] - that's a little thornier, even if it was an honest mistake that wasn't even mine.

Here's another angle - that just gets written off as stolen or shrinkage. But if I come back in, then that poor cashier might be reprimanded or even fired.

The item didn't scan for whatever reason. So there's no record of sale, and no way to trace it back to the cashier. All that happens when they do inventory is they have 8 of a couple of items instead of 9, and that gets written off. MAYBE they have the ability to go back to video, and see that the scans did not reconcile with the total. But this happens all the time and it's a cost of doing business that is factored into their prices.

If you go back in, then it's possible the store will be alerted to the cashier's incompetence.

What if you see the person load something in your cart with out scanning it and it's clearly intentional? I had a checkout girl at Giant Eagle not charge me for a flank stank and she winked when she did it.

I might try dressing like someone who can afford a flank steak (lol - something marginally better than sweats with holes in them?) :)

It was for crockpot mongolian beef, and it was great. :)

I'm pretty sure I was wearing sweats and a tee shirt though haha.
