This is just insane. I feel sorry for the children of these backwater rednecks. In their defense maybe they were confused and thought they were at a political rally:RpS_flapper: -
ppaw1999I was at our local high school graduation yesterday. Due to the chance of rain it was held indoors. It is situations like this that makes it hard for me not to be prejudice. As is common practice an announcement was made to hold your applaud until all the students are recognized. Of course there will be a small amount of cheering as each student receives their diploma. But there is one race of people who have to go way overboard showing their "enthusiasm" to the point you can't even hear the next one or two students being recognized. There is one race of people that instead of taking seats in the stands they have to sit in the aisle way. All the better seats were taken by people who got there early. There is one race of people who have to run down and stand in front of everybody else so they can take the pictures they want. Never mind that the people in their seats cannot see and take pictures of their kids. Several people asked them to move but that wasn't going to happen until they got what they wanted. I know it was just a small minority that was blatantly guilty, but when it does happen why is it always the same race of people? They make it look bad for everyone else.

QuakerOatsI've witnessed similar behavior.

sleeperWe have a disgusted with Progressives thread. Why did we need another one?

I wonder if this race has been historically marginalized in US history and having a family member achieve what many of them were not able to brings about more enthusiasm than the privileged class.ppaw1999;1856673 wrote:I was at our local high school graduation yesterday. saltoWhat kind of high school has graduation at a Baptist Church? Sounds like religious fanatics were at it, once again.

HereticReligious people are the worst.

Like i said this was just a minority. In my small town this is not the norm. There just seem to be a small group that want to play the race card. I would think in this day and age anyone could get a high school diploma if they so desired. A college degree might be more in the realm of the "privileged class."sleeper;1856678 wrote:I wonder if this race has been historically marginalized in US history and having a family member achieve what many of them were not able to brings about more enthusiasm than the privileged class. -

You could start and end any thread with this. It's the strongest form of reality.Heretic;1856681 wrote:Religious people are the worst. -
HitsRus^^^Yep even the Islamic ones.
While the OP referenced 'race', I've seen this happen at multiple graduations, and race doesn't necessarily enter into it. A lot of it is just plain rudeness and a lack of respect for others. When you are asked to hold your applause till the end you should attempt to cooperate.
....only from the addled mind of a progressive. They really are worse than religious people.I wonder if this race has been historically marginalized in US history and having a family member achieve what many of them were not able to brings about more enthusiasm than the privileged class. -

I'd venture to say I've been to at least as many graduations as you have, prolly more...and it has ALWAYS involved race, one in particular.HitsRus;1856689 wrote:

I hate the word "always". I don't think it's necessarily a race thing. I think it's more of class thing. I've seen plenty of white families act the same way as described. They are typically the families in cut off jeans and tank tops. They celebrate their graduate with his 1.9 GPA as if he just cured cancer.vball10set;1856710 wrote:I'd venture to say I've been to at least as many graduations as you have, prolly more...and it has ALWAYS involved race, one in particular. -

I agree. Living in a rural, mostly white area, when I read this thread, the first thing I thought was "hillbillies" because they're the ones acting like that around here.TBone14;1856714 wrote:This

You don't have large churches in your area (3000-plus seating) that lease their facility to smaller high schools for graduation? I thought that was a fairly common practice. My secular high school used to use a nearby Nazarene church that seated 2500, now we use a large non-denominational Pentecostal church that seats over 3000. Nice facility, air-conditioned, easy to get to, and plenty of parking.salto;1856679 wrote:What kind of high school has graduation at a Baptist Church? Gotcha. We have a handful of entrepreneur-like farmers who've turned former agriculture buildings into large rental spaces. Apparently being in a house of worship doesn't change the, "trash is trash" type of people. -

I agree about the 1.9 GPA graduates. A High School Diploma in some cases is becoming a participation trophy.TBone14;1856714 wrote:This

This happened at my graduation, and it was one skin color in particular.ppaw1999;1856673 wrote:I was at our local high school graduation yesterday. Due to the chance of rain it was held indoors. It was white people. Everyone who graduated from the school the year I did ... as far as I remember, anyway ... was white. And there was a contingent who fit a less classy stereotype who behaved just as you described.
