Belly35Today is Mothers Days.
What was the best day you can remember with your mom?
Ever year before Christmas my mom would make this delightful pastry little lady finger stuffed with this creamy filling. She would make hundreds. As far back as I can remember she showed me how to stuff the pastry with this wonderful creamy, sweet, light filling. As the pasty came out of the oven she let them cool for about a hour, slide them off the cloths pin. The kitchen smelled great, flower, sugar was everywhere but it didn't matter. This time, just once a year was a special time and place. When the baking was all done, the filling was all gone she would cry, tell me she loved me, was sorry things sometime got difficult and told me I was special. Hot chocolate , baked lady fingers and a hug. I made this pasty with my mom up to the time I when into the service. The first Christmas when I got back was the last time we made this pastry together. She never made them again, she said they would never be as good without me. I'm sad that I never took the time before she passed away to make that last batch of lady fingers. Nobody in the family had the recipe.
I love you mom..... -

ts1227We recently learned that today will likely be the last Mother's Day we spend with mom (terminal lung cancer, hospice care in the house), so we flew our grandmother in and got food catered for one potentially last nice family meal.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you can make a few more great memories with her in the time she has left. This time with family will be appreciated.ts1227;1852862 wrote:We recently learned that today will likely be the last Mother's Day we spend with mom (terminal lung cancer, hospice care in the house), so we flew our grandmother in and got food catered for one potentially last nice family meal. -

friendfromlowryMy mom just retired last week after working as a nurse for 40+ years. I'm really happy for her and hope her and my dad (also retired) can spend a lot of time doing what they want now.

Hate to hear this. Thoughts to you, your mom, and your whole family. -
ZunardoThe best day I can remember with my Mom?
Probably my first day of school in the first grade. She packed my lunch in my new lunchbox, and then held my hand during the 15-minute walk through our neighborhood to the elementary school. I remember it was a nice sunny day. Our classrooms had doors to the outside, along with inside doors to the hallway. We went thru the outside door, Mom talked with the teacher while I got situated at my desk, and then she left. It was a good day. When class let out, Mom was waiting outside, and we walked home, and I'm sure I was a little chatterbox telling her about my new teacher and classmates and lunch and recess.
Mom passed away three years ago. Maybe seven or eight years ago when her memory was still decent, I asked her if she remembered that day, and she said she didn't. I told her I had never forgotten it.
Today I live one street away from where I grew up. Sometimes I'll go for a walk on a sunny morning after my wife has left for work. I'll retrace the path Momand I took that day and picture her walking with me to school and smiling because I'm looking forward to my first day of school -
Fab4RunnerTaking my mom to ALDS and World Series games last year was pretty great. She is the best, and I am very thankful for her.

Very cool. I took my father to the last game at Municipal Stadium and opening day at "The Jake". He had also seen a game at League Park. My wife wasn't too happy when I told her I wanted to take my father to the first game at the new stadium but she came to forgive me over time.Fab4Runner;1852932 wrote:Taking my mom to ALDS and World Series games last year was pretty great. AppleMy mom died in February of 2016. One of my best friends once astutely said to me back in the 1980's, "Your mom is just a mean old lady".
She alienated a lot of people from her life... including my kids.
Its actually kind of sad, she was my mom after all, but I have yet to shed a tear or get caught up in any sort of emotion with her passing. I guess I moved on from her being an important part of my life a long time ago.
You can't choose your parents.
