Monthly Subscription Boxes
-
wildcats20So I'm sure this has been discussed over the years...but does anyone subscribe to any?
I just signed up for Sprezza Box. Which is basically just a men's accessory box. It's $28/month for supposedly over $100 in value. The first month has a code that you can get it for $8, pretty much the only reason I signed up.
My gf used to do Birchbox. Only really stopped because it was somewhat pricey. She liked the products she got.
We also do a wine "club" called Winc. You have to order at least 3 bottles per month, which start at $13 each. It's not anything fancy, but all the wine we have received has been pretty good. -
ts1227I've never done any specifically geared at me, the wife has though. She did Birchbox for a while, she still buys some of the products she discovered because of it regularly. But 3/4 of the shit never got used.
Did the Bark Box for the dog, but he's a strong ass chewer and most of the toys in it he destroyed in 5 minutes so that was getting old.
She did one that was I think weekly for healthy snacks like nuts and shit, and basically never ate it so I pushed for that to be cancelled in a hurry -
justincredibleI'm doing Book of the Month right now, which is sort of similar to these but you actually get to pick the thing they send you. I'm considering one of the clothing subscription boxes in the future, because I hate to shop but my wardrobe could use an update.

That's the way the Winc club is. We get to pick the bottles. You can have it choose for you, but we usually pick.justincredible;1847505 wrote:I'm doing Book of the Month right now, which is sort of similar to these but you actually get to pick the thing they send you. justincredibleNice. My only previous experience with these was Birch Box for men several years ago and they just sent you random stuff. In the end it wasn't worth the monthly fee for most of the boxes, but the first box I got came with what turned out to be my favorite tie.

Fab4RunnerI got the Ipsy glam bag for about 10 months. It's cheap and there were some decent products. I was pretty much over it and then my credit card expired so I just never updated it. I did receive about 25 emails a day for a week telling me to update, which got old very quickly.

friendfromlowryMy wife has some for clothes and make-up. We have one for our daughter. I think it's called Bluum? They ship one a month that has a few odds and ends based on her age (toys, books, eating accessories)

ernest_t_bassDollar Shave Club.

HereticWhen I was younger, I did a lot of those cassette/CD clubs where you got 12 for the price of 1 and then had to buy so many more at full price over a while and also was in a Sci Fi book club, but haven't been part of anything like that in ages.

I've been eyeing down Sprezza box to add to my tie and accessory collection. Let me know how you like it after a couple months.wildcats20;1847498 wrote:So I'm sure this has been discussed over the years...but does anyone subscribe to any?

I had birch box. I liked it at the time, but after awhile I just started to collect "shit," so I ended the subscription. I tried Bombfell as well, where a stylist sends you 1-5 items of clothing and you can either keep it and pay, or send it back and pay nothing. I used it specifically to get a certain style of jacket. I sent them the link of the exact type of jacket I was looking for and after 4 months, they failed miserably giving me nothing similar at all. I ended that "subscription" as well. -

I definitely did the BMG and Columbia House CD clubs when I was a kid. I loved the sheet of stamps you picked from and placed on the return card to pick your CDs.Heretic;1847580 wrote:When I was younger, I did a lot of those cassette/CD clubs where you got 12 for the price of 1 and then had to buy so many more at full price over a while and also was in a Sci Fi book club, but haven't been part of anything like that in ages. -
justincredibleI forgot, I also did Lucky Tackle Box, Mystery Tackle Box, and Tackle Grab (now out of business) for a month or two each to test out a few years ago.

I did the DVD one for the longest time and always forgot to say no to the monthly shipment. Got stuck with so many shitty, overpriced DVDs.justincredible;1847590 wrote:I definitely did the BMG and Columbia House CD clubs when I was a kid. justincredibleI'm pretty sure I was sent a Lilith Fair CD because I didn't reply that I didn't want it and then just never paid.

This happened to me with CDs. So many times. That's a big part of why I quit the stupid things.wildcats20;1847592 wrote:I did the DVD one for the longest time and always forgot to say no to the monthly shipment. Got stuck with so many shitty, overpriced DVDs. -

I did Mystery tackle box for a month last month because it was only $5 to try. Then I cancelled. The box was decent but 1 lure was worth 3/4 of the box which I didn't like.I barely fish though, so it might actually be nice.justincredible;1847591 wrote:I forgot, I also did Lucky Tackle Box, Mystery Tackle Box, and Tackle Grab (now out of business) for a month or two each to test out a few years ago. -

Have a couple of friends who have done Bombfell and Trunk Club. Neither were super impressed with what they received. TrunkClub seems like a lot of work, having to chat with stylist, etc....like_that;1847584 wrote:I've been eyeing down Sprezza box to add to my tie and accessory collection. FatHobbitI tried stitch fix because a friend of mine got something for everyone she signed up. I thought surely I would find something I liked, but everything was super expensive. The jeans were $100. I know there are probably a lot of people who spend $100 on jeans, but I am not one of them.

sleeperI just buy stuff that I want instead of getting random junk in a box on a monthly basis.
I put monthly subscription services slightly above MLM schemes on my business quality hierarchy. -

Yeah, that was no accident...justincredible;1847593 wrote:I'm pretty sure I was sent a Lilith Fair CD because I didn't reply that I didn't want it and then just never paid. -

Got my box the other day. It was supposedly partnered with the show The Blacklist on NBC.like_that;1847584 wrote:I've been eyeing down Sprezza box to add to my tie and accessory collection. Let me know how you like it after a couple months.
It's ok, I might do a couple months just to add to my accessory collection.
What the box contained and their "retail" prices:
Sprezza x The Blacklist tie $30
Sunny Rebel Aviators $49
Sprezza x The Blacklist pocket square $18
Slate & Stone Socks $14
Cufflinks.com Tie Clip $20
Geometric money clip $15

ZoltanI have done Five Four, a clothing service a few times. I always do it when there is a deal and then I cancel. Their stuff is hit or miss, but it's usually worth the $30 I pay. I have gotten a couple good spring type jackets, wearable henleys, etc.
