Hobbies ...extra cash

  • Belly35
I really don't have a hobbies that I'm dedicated to, I never really had the time.
Friend of mine been making fishing poles for years, he sells one or two per month. Another friend has trains he buys and trades all the time little extra spending money for the hobby. Guy at work does woodworking building custom cabinets he turns more work down, builds only what he want to build and charge a lot for his work. Some hobbies turns into nice money and still remained a hobby.

Do you have a hobby ? could you profit a little from it?

My only hobby is target pistol shooting, most of the income opportunities around it would be felonies.

We have a number of fruit trees and bushes on the property. A few times we've had more raspberries than we could use and traded them to restaurants for meals.

I became a public-address announcer for my high school football team over 20 years ago, just for the fun - took on basketball and track soon after, all on a volunteer basis.

Ten years ago a community college scout heard me at a game, and asked if I'd do their basketball games for pay, and it's been great. Gives me a little spending money, the best seat in the house, a chance to interact with officials, coaches, and players, I get to run my mouth a little, and in return they get the greatest PA announcer in the world.

On occasion I also get paid for working OHSAA tournament events when my high school is the host site, plus I've been recruited by a few other high schools for occasional paid work. Keeps me off the streets.

I have been reffing wrestling for 2 years now. I got the call up to varsity this past season, and I am enjoying it. I do get paid for it, and the extra $ is nice to have on the side, it's like getting an extra bonus every April (they pay out in lump sums every year). Overall though, I am happy to be around the sport in some capacity. With traffic and living in DC, I don't have the time to coach anymore.

It's also ironic, because when I coached I always bitched about refs and talked about how terrible they are. Now, I think about how a lot of these coaches are fucking idiots and have no idea what they are talking about .

I pre-screen movies for critics and to generate social media buzz. Pays pretty well per movie and I get to watch movies sometimes months in advance (for free).

I DJ as a hobby and only recently started getting paid gigs. It's not much, but better than nothing. Sometimes it's just free booze, also not bad.

I'm the exact opposite. I reffed for 17 years, and the state's highest scholastic level (state tourney). Just finished my first year of coaching, and it is very interesting with the shoe on the other foot.

My son and I had a car detail business last summer....hard work but decent side cash while teaching him a bit about business and work ethic. We have plans on doing some more of that this summer but mix in tutoring for upper elementary kids

Antique business. Your travels can become tax write-offs.

    Hope this helps.

I ref'd basketball for 3 years before moving. Never got to varsity, but my last season I was doing JV games. The players and coaches are bad about the rules. But my god, the fans just have no clue what the rules are. It's incredible.

not to totally get off topic but this past weekend at my sons aau tourney, I was doing scoreboard and the opposing teams coaches would yell travel on every possession and on two different occasions they were calling over and backs, back and overs!!! LOL

I have been officiating high school basketball for 20 years and it seems to get worse every year. Everyone always asks me why there are not that many young officials getting in to it and this is the reason. It is worse at the Jr High level and young officials decide it is not worth the abuse.

I have a third grade son and a fifth grade daughter. This is the first year of playing AAU basketball for both. We have had 3 tourneys so far and it is very comical to see how some of these coaches and fans act. My wife has gotten angry and wanted to say something to them. I have to rein her in and reminder her this is how AAU goes and that we are here for our kids to play better athletes and not get caught up in all of the drama.

Visit Garth's antique auction in Delaware, Ohio. At least check out their website. One of the top antique auctions in Ohio.
imo- You don't need a storage locker. You can either have hundreds of shit items which sell for a few bucks or a half dozen or so items which tell for thousands.

My dads antique business mostly dealt in colonial age antiques. Unfortunately for me, my vacations as a kid were spent going to Williamsburg, etc....
