FatHobbitAlso expensive weddings and rings are stupid, but I suspect that isn't an unpopular opinion here.

I'd be real curious to see info on a family of four that makes $22k. There's no such thing as child poverty. It's poor parents making poor choices and wanting to blame others for their own choices.Commander of Awesome;1816695 wrote:Sleepr you dummy, you just supported my point and you didn't even know it bc you're so quick to be a know it all chest thumping dumbass.
According to "Capital Kids," a new report on the state of children throughout the Washington region, the childhood poverty rate in D.C.—those kids living in a family of four taking in just $22,000 a year—stands at 30.4 percent, higher than Mexico's rate. CHILD POVERTY is a real issue in DC which equates to lower test scores and poorer performance. Many reasons for child poverty, but fact remains child poverty is a great indicator of poor school performance.
Teachers aren't miracle workers. When you have kids with a ton of out of school trauma, that limits the impact a teacher can have. Very similar to what I said about charter schools, throwing money at a school isn't the solution. Dealing with effect ways to limit child poverty is a much more effect way to increasing school performance. However, that's much harder problem to solve.
For those that GAF, article about school integration (John Oliver also did a great piece on it): https://ww2.kqed.org/news/2016/09/07/gentrification-threatens-oaklands-few-truly-diverse-schools/
Want to end 'child poverty'? Then make parents accountable for their own poor choices. Reality! -

The reality is these people will blame everything except themselves, the true cause of their own problems.
How to break the cycle? Hold parents accountable for their child's education. Kid fails a class? $100 fine. Can't afford the $100? Kids are taken away and put in a home that has responsible parents.
Everything else is just a waste of time. -
rocketalumTaking your kids with you on an expensive vacation or spending a lot of money on them for Christmas or birthday's before they're old enough to even remember it is a huge waste of money. This one's a bit personal right now. Going round with the wife about an appropriate Christmas budget this year. Our twins will be 18 months old

Laley23What is considered expensive in a wedding? Cause cheap weddings are the absolute worst. You don't have to go overboard, but you can't be cheap.
I have no problem with expensive rings. It's the one gift that lasts forever for the other person and they will be wearing every minute of their life from here on out. Don't sell you're house for it, just budget your salary around paying it off. -

Yeah....dont need to be getting them much. Honestly I would just go with stuff they need and instead of giving when you buy just wrap and give.rocketalum;1816711 wrote:Taking your kids with you on an expensive vacation or spending a lot of money on them for Christmas or birthday's before they're old enough to even remember it is a huge waste of money. Was the same way with all my nieces and nephews. After a few years I was like WTF why did I spend that much on a 1 yr old!

Fuck all of that. -
Fab4RunnerCheap is relative. We just spent about $13,000 on our wedding, which is way under the national average, and my husband still thought it was insane. I didn't disagree, but we knew we wanted to throw a good party for a lot of people, and that's what it ended up costing. I will say, our food was fucking amazing and no one did the twist.

We were at $14K or so, which while it's a shitload of money it's also basically half the national average, so it's "cheap" on a grand scale.Fab4Runner;1816721 wrote:Cheap is relative. That being said it's a balance. People still tell us how nice our wedding was and how much they liked it 3 years later, so we apparently got some serious bang for our buck. -
like_thatMy take is if the parents pay for it, then idgaf. If you're asking me to pay that much... LOL

sleeperIf you're spending under $30k on a wedding you had to cut corners somewhere. Either your venue sucks, your food sucks, your drinks suck or you suck.
I've been to $100k+ weddings and $5k+ weddings and I'd much rather go to the $100k wedding. If/when I ever get married, it'll be well north of 100k and none of you will be invited. -

Not really. Not every part of the state/country has expensive as shit venues/food/drinks.sleeper;1816726 wrote:If you're spending under $30k on a wedding you had to cut corners somewhere. Either your venue sucks, your food sucks, your drinks suck or you suck.

That's a fair point. Most of the weddings I've been to are either on the East or West coast in relevant cities. $30k on a wedding in DC is like spending $5k in bum fuck Missouri.thavoice;1816728 wrote:Not really. Not every part of the state/country has expensive as shit venues/food/drinks. -

Been to a couple of 'city weddings' and thought they were stuffy and uppity as fuck. Most of the local weddings around here are in legions and a couple of banquet halls. Food is generally pretty good and just prefer the good ole party atmosphere instead of the over-the-top bitchy ass weddings that I noticed at the more 'pricey and upscale' places.sleeper;1816731 wrote:That's a fair point. SpockHiring women for men's jobs is fucking stupid
Home schooling doesn't work
Fat people should have to pay more for food and insurance
Fat people shouldn't be allowed in fast food restaurants(we did this to smokers) -

I don't think we should hire men to do women's jobs either. Ex:teachersSpock wrote:Hiring women for men's jobs is fucking stupid
I only know a handful of people who homeschool and they are dumb as fuck and do it because kids are mean. I'm sure there are examples that are fine, but IMHO you should have to have more than (at least?) a high school diploma to homeschool your kids.Spock;1816806 wrote:Home schooling doesn't work
A relative of mine's wife decided to pull their kids out of school. They basically fucked off all year and were relatively proud of all their free time. Now she decided to put her kids back in school and the oldest has to repeat 11th grade. Good job you dumb bitch.
