  i was working at home that day, enjoying my coffee. I had just finish running some sale report, turned on the radio on the computer, was just looking over the reports, when the new of the first plane hit the tower. I when into the family room to watch the news on TV, called my wife at work and told her, she was already watching it. ....... when the second plane hit the towers I call down to the warehouse and sent everyone home to be with there families.

  Was in middle school on VA. Heard rumors of what happened, but the teachers were all being tight lipped for whatever reason. It wasn't until I got onto the bus home and understood the magnitude when we all listened to the radio. I became very concerned, because my dad would have meetings at the pentagon all the time. Once the bus got to my stop I ran home and asked my mom. My dad was fine, but for whatever fucking reason it didn't cross my mom's mind to give me a call. She felt pretty bad. A few years later I found out that my dad had a meeting at the pentagon that morning , but it was cancelled.
  
  I currently work with people who were in the pentagon when it got hit. I don't ask them for their story for out of respect, but one particular man told me he general made them come into work the next day. The mission doesn't stop for scumbag terrorists is what he told them.
  
  Highly recommend listening to this podcast episode. It can be graphic, but it puts a lot of things in perspective when we all think about our experiences. It's about a journalist who was a volunteer EMT and he happened to be right by the towers when they got hit. He tells his story of the entire experience.

  There are two events in my life time where I will always remember where I was, and I'm not just saying this:
  
  1) September 11, 2001
  2) Appy state beating Michigan
  
  1) Was asleep in college. Came walking down the stairs to the roommates watching the TV, "Dude, you gotta see this." Hopped on the shuttle to class and it was eerily silent the whole trip. Same with campus. Classes cancelled for the day.

  (Actually they weren't THAT innocent. They were HS seniors.)

  I didn't greatly understand the magnitude until a few hours in. The panicking people began wearing off on the calm and it was getting tense...then at the end of our school day a younger sibling of one of our students pulled the fire alarm and put many into a greater panic. On my way home I drive by the uranium enrichment plant in Piketon and rumors were going about it being targeted. By the time I got home gas went from $1.19 to $1.95 at the cheapest place in town and some were going up to $4 a gallon and the lines were essentially too long to even get in to. Had a coed softball game that evening and by then everyone there was convinced we were all going to be drafted.
  
  The news was all that was watched on tv and I never watch the news.
  
  About a month later Alan Jackson just drilled it with that song on the awards show presentation.

  Art class, freshman year of high school. Had a school wide meeting where the told us. Allowed us to call parents and parents could come pick us up, but didn't want us leaving school without parents.
  
  Classes proceeded, but most teachers held discussion on the topic or would allow us to watch the news on the AV room or library. Was surreal. I didn't grasp what happened the same way I do today, but I grasped it decently well and feared for what was going to happen next.

  I was taking a quiz in my 5th grade math class. All of the 5th and 6th graders sat in the social studies room for the rest of the day watching the news. I had no idea of the significance for probably 2-3 more years.

  The first plane hit at the very end of my first period class, so we started to hear chatter between classes. Second period was accounting, and we spent the class watching the news. We saw the 2nd plane hit, and saw both towers fall later that morning. The rest of the day was a mixture of actual classwork and watching the news. Even the teachers who tried to teach had the news on in the background.
  
  I do remember that my stepdad was traveling for work that day, so I went to the office to call my mom to make sure he was okay. The school let students go home early if they wanted to, but I didn't see the point. I didn't want to sit at home alone.

  First period American History, principal came into classroom, told us there was something important on TV. S0 we were watching when the second plane hit.

  At work on Dueber ave - Timken Steel Offices. After first plan hit, everyone went to conference rooms and put TVs on to watch. I called my wife that was working in Hudson and they did they same thing at her office.
