Nose out of joint

  • ZWICK 4 PREZ
Has anyone not heard of this expression? I used it today and a co-worker asked me wtf I meant by that. I assumed it was pretty standard, but maybe it's local? I dunno.

    What say you.

More generational than geographical, I think. Heard it growing up, but don't recall hearing it since.

Yeah, I heard of it. Were you sitting on the davenport when you said it or were you at the soda shop talking around the water cooler about the sock-hop dance coming up this weekend?

Just means you are getting old

I bet when that happens your day starts to go really catawampus.
  • Zunardo
    Whippersnappers, all of you. :)

I guess it's fallen out of use so much, none of the youngsters learn to suss out its meaning, or at least know how and when to use it in conversation and writing to add a little spice to their communication. And I am officially old.

I've never looked it up where it came from, but from the context in which I've always heard or read it, I assumed it had to do with being insulted so much, it shows on your face.
  • QuakerOats
We said it a lot back in the day.
  • friendfromlowry
I thought this was going to be a thread about a dislocated nose :-(
  • Ironman92

Is this a running joke I don't know about? Because sleeper isn't from Marion.
