He's never set foot in the building since... not even to visit. Surprised the hell out of me. They're always traveling somewhere, whether a vacation or just to visit my sisters and their kids. So far this year alone they've been to Cabo and Europe on the viking river cruise. Going to San Fran in July like they do every year since it's his favorite city. They have a cabin at lake erie in geneva on the lake that they spend a ton of time at in the summer. I can hardly get time to golf with him anymore.
To me, thats what you do in your 60's.. not work.
I hear ya. I used to work in a bank branch, and we'd have this old timer come in every week wearing either A) Cubs jersey, shorts, and sandals (with socks) or B) Cubs hat, bears jersey, and jeans. He never wanted any help, he just liked to wander around and read the random signs in our building. He was completely coherent, and a really nice guy. He retired from working for the city and just enjoyed walking around downtown people watching. That's how I imagine my retirement. Doing whatever I want, when I want, and raking in the senior discounts everywhere I can.

He lasted about 4 years of doing part time contract work, until he said F this and started traveling with my mom.
    Same same.....

    I'll be retiring at 40.

Nah; you need to keep working to take care of the boomers, remember .........

I bought stock in cat food. As a shareholder, I'm very interested in taking care of the Boomers!

cracks me up to see old timers going back to work because they're bored.

Go travel and live your life. You'll be dead soon anyway, so make the most of it.

...I'm a couple years away from retirement and I want NO part of going to work EVER AGAIN. The plan is to move south (Sarasota area) and get out of the Ohio winters forever & if people want to come visit....great. I'll keep a place up here to visit my kids & hopefully grankids during the rest of the year. I have no need nor desire to work again just to keep from getting board!!!

I am all for my in-laws retiring/becoming snow birds....but hopefully out west since Florida is the worst state in the US, bar none.

...I really like Sarasota but the rest of the state you can keep. The Siesta Key area is beautiful and plenty enough to do for the winter months. I agree with you on looking out west because some of those states (AZ or southern CA) are nice in the winter but really hot in the summer. The cost of living is pretty affordable in AZ, but not so much in SoCal (Palm Springs) where my brother and sister live.

Florida has oceans and warm weather. Any negatives associated with Florida are far outweighed by that, especially compared to Ohio.

Warm weather and oceans don't make up for the citizens of Florida. Decent place to visit though.

West is the way to go.

I understand where Belly is coming from somewhat, but at 66...FUCK THAT.

I deal with a lot of older sales reps in my current position. Old dogs that can't learn new tricks. It's very frustrating at times.

and about a million great golf courses.

Hence why I said, "decent place to visit."

It would take a lot of money for me to live there permanently.

...Sarasota for (4 or 5) months a year is the plan and then head back to Ohio for late Spring, Summer and Fall but once the leaves are done changing color and football season is over.....I'm gone!

Is it the age of the residents? I've never had a problem with anyone down there.

...could be the location also. I've had friends who were down in the Tallahassee area who moved back north because it wasn't what they thought it would be in one of those retirement communities but where I've looked at along the west coast I've met nothing but nice people and plenty of golf to be played there.

Belly- I understand why you would want to go back to work. If its something you like doing, its not really work. If its the same job you talked to me about a couple weeks ago, I know you'll do a great job! Good for you! :)
