Star wars, the force awakens (spoilers)
-
FatHobbitAs suggested, here is a thread for star wars spoilers
-
HitsRusI deleted my post on the other thread and moved it here ....<<<< spoiler alert >>>>
Since we are talking spoilers, the group that I watched the movie with came away with the impression that Rae is Luke daughter and that she was hidden away at a young age on Jakku to protect her....the light saber triggers the unpleasant memories.
<<<< spoiler alert >>>> -
sleeperThe film was good but it was too much like A New Hope in plot; almost identical in every way.
Yeah Rey being Luke's daughter might be a plausible theory. She obviously gets her Jedi powers from somewhere and doesn't know her family so it would make sense. Star Wars loves to play the Father-Son pretty hard and maybe a slight change to make it Father-Daughter. -
FatHobbitI finally saw the new star wars. I definitely liked it but I was hoping for something more. I don't know what exactly. I knew going in that I had super high expectations and they probably weren't going to be met. I'm also glad I read the spoilers ahead of time or I would have been pissed off at how easily Rey picked up the force. I kind of want to see it again and I can't wait for episode 8

A lot of people have been critical of that particular plot line but I don't think its a big deal. Even Luke had some semblance of the force before he was trained and its not like someone told him "Oh you can control people's minds or grab objects" before he did those things.FatHobbit;1771080 wrote:I finally saw the new star wars. If there's anything to be critical about, its definitely the story of the entire movie. You'd think they could come up with a different objective or battle but no it had to be about killing a new death star by attacking a weak spot. They had to have a person on a distant planet with unknown Jedi powers join the war via Han Solo. You can probably think of 100 things that were extremely similar to movie #4. -
FatHobbit
Seriously though. It's very easy to pick these movies apart if you try. It's not a death star. It's BIGGER! But it has one tiny weakness that blows it all to shit. The whole part about being able to get through their shields at light speed was a joke too. And Rey complaining every time Finn tried to hold her hand and lead her to safety was a little to feminist for me. I definitely like her more than Luke though. He was a whiny bitch sometimes. I thought Han Solo was a little too silly this time. He was always kind of fly by the seat of your pants but this time he was more silly than cool.sleeper;1771096 wrote:You'd think they could come up with a different objective or battle but no it had to be about killing a new death star by attacking a weak spot.
But I think picking them apart spoils the fun. It's more enjoyable for me to just go with the flow. -
GoPensRey has to be the daughter of...
1. Luke--pretty much the most obvious choice, but who's her mom?
2. Han and Leia--you think it would have been mentioned in the movie sometime, but it seemed like when Solo and Rey were alone together, there was something he wanted to tell her. Kylo Ren being her brother adds another twist.
3. Snoke--Has the Force. Would definitely be the big shocker for Episode VIII ala "Luke I am your father". -
HitsRus^^^ thinking that Rey is Luke's daughter is the only plausible explanation for the Force being strong in her.
.....and good question? Who is her mother? It doesn't make sense that Luke Skywalker, hot, stud, daredevil pilot, hero of a gazillion people and planets is celibate all this time?
Perhaps, all this will be revealed in episode 8. -

It's so obvious I almost hope it's not true. But if it's not they certainly have made it seem like she is.GoPens;1771119 wrote:Rey has to be the daughter of...

I was surprised at how quick they said kylo was their son. I also think it was a little odd how Han acted around Rey. He either knows and it seems like he should have said something, or he doesn't and then a lot of his actions don't make sense.GoPens;1771119 wrote:2. I'm expecting him to be 6 inches tall and the giant hologram is compensating for somethingGoPens;1771119 wrote:3. Snoke--Has the Force. Would definitely be the big shocker for Episode VIII ala "Luke I am your father". -

HitsRus^^^^that's true but somebody has to pass on the DNA. One can have sexual relations without an emotional relationship.
... And perhaps another reason why Rey was put on Jakku. -
FatHobbit
It was Luke and Leia. Hence the need for no training with the force.HitsRus;1771139 wrote:^^^^that's true but somebody has to pass on the DNA. One can have sexual relations without an emotional relationship.

Scarlet_BuckeyeRey = Luke's daughter. The whole point of Star Wars is the story of the Skywalker family.
Supreme Leader Snoke = Darth Plagueis. Plagueis is responsible for the virgin birth of Anakin Skywalker, and will now be struck down by the offspring of Skywalker (Rey) -

I disagree with you there. They had to do numerous bombing runs to blow the reactor up which eventually led to the planet being consumed by itself. I really wish the first three movies were done like this, better than watching debates in the Senate like the first movie had lolFatHobbit;1771114 wrote:Seriously though. Definitely better than episodes 1-3,but still very very similar to the death starClassyposter58;1771197 wrote:I disagree with you there. There's no way. They knew they were brother and sister. No way.FatHobbit;1771144 wrote:It was Luke and Leia. Hence the need for no training with the force.

BRFSaw the movie today with my son and my droid 3-D glasses. Enjoyed it very much. Hope my son doesn't treat me like the scene on the catwalk. (And btw, a great scene remembrance of Luke vs. Darth)
Thought it started slowly and kinda lame, but picked up nicely mid-way to the end. Great ending.
Glad I read this thread before hand to think about Rey being the child of Luke.
I'm trying to like the idea of the storm troopers being "humanized" and I'm feeling a little better about it. -
GoPensFinn the son of Lando Calrissian? Billy Dee Williams has hinted he may be in future movies.

I thought this, too.GoPens;1771576 wrote:Finn the son of Lando Calrissian? Billy Dee Williams has hinted he may be in future movies.
I'm good with it.
One thing puzzling me is why Finn has the double n. He was trooper FN-2187, so why not Fin? -
Glory Days
In regards to Luke having a daughter, its hard to say, they dont really have him being a guy that ladies throw themselves at compared to a Han Solo. Plus, wouldn't Han or Leia know Luke was in a relationship before he disappeared? He didn't disappear until after Kylo Ren went bad.Scarlet_Buckeye;1771194 wrote:Rey = Luke's daughter. In regards to Snoke, I dont recall Anakin being a virgin birth, just that his mom was poor and was making ends meet by whoring herself out. Based only on the movie...she only said she didn't know who the father was, which I understood to be that it could have been one of many fathers. -
Glory DaysOverall, I think it was a good bridge movie. They should be able to hand over the reigns from the old characters to the new characters without turning away the hardcore fans. my only sorta complaint was since when could any one randomly pick up a light saber and for the most part, hold their own against a trained quasi jedi?
and thinking about it later after the movie, I was waiting for Luke to take the light saber from Rey's hand at the end, but he never did. I mean, that was his light saber correct? -
