How do you view the Christmas Bonus?

This is a debate that has been going since the inception of bank accounts. There is no right answer, you can make an argument for both.

For discussion sake....my parents have 3. Each has their own and one shared account where the funnel money into from rental properties they manage. The shared one is used for general household purchases, groceries, repairs, etc. Also for maintenance/repair expenses for the properties.

They have been "managing" these 3 account for as long as I can remember and my father just started using online banking. It's not difficult.

Yep, pretty standard. And makes the most sense. The only logical discussion for not doing it this way is one from absolute slob territory. Only other discussion is one from an emotional stand point, which holds ZERO water to me. Finances are srs biz, not changing that so my partner doesn't have hurt feelz.

If you're worried your wife is going to torpedo you, you have bigger issues than how many bank account you need. Does that make sense to you, or is it too dumb, lazy, and/or slobbish, you fucking child lol.

IMO the "shared account" notion is old school as hell. Be responsible with your finances and open with your partner and it's a non-issue.

If you are good on bills and other expenses and you get a little extra cash and want to spend that on a personal trip/purchase, then I don't see why not.
This. It varies each time depending upon necessity

lol, glad I'm not in business with you. I've seen plenty of 10+ yr relationships end. It can happen Disney boy, yes even to you. I also wouldn't get married without a pre-nup, bet you're against that too?

Can't people be responsible and open with their partner with 1 account? Is there a difference in being open and responsible with one account vs. multiple?

I genuinely don't understand the benefits of having 2. Maybe there are advantages. I just don't know them. If a divorce occurs as previously mentioned the assets are included in the QDRO whether they are in 3 accounts or 1.

10+ and way beyond. Woman can get crazy as fuck as time goes on. You bet your ass I'd get a prenup.

My cousin is in a horrific situation right now due to divorce. His wife dips heavily into his pension, it's absurd.

Absolutely, which is why I said there is no correct answer.

I kno you're still at a pretty early stage in life for this, but to me it makes the most sense by far. When you max your 401ks and IRA's and 529's and mortgage payments and car payments and daycare/private schools, it's pretty hard to just split up costs of who will pay for what. Then you have your costs that pop up like 3 grand for car work... instead of moving cash around from account to account,, it's already in 1 account

It's 2015. None of what you just said is hard to manage by any means.

I'm not suggesting it's that hard, rather just unnecessary.

You're ignoring what we've said up to this point. You want to ignore fine, but stop arguing your same point, it serves no purpose.

lol....you just said "it's pretty hard"

But I get what you're saying...it's unnecessary for YOUR situation.

No what you said makes no sense whatsoever. During a divorce, you don't get to keep what's in your account just because its yours. If you're worried your wife/husband will raid the account before you're divorced, then I see your point.

Yep, lets hope the same thing that's happened to your boy and several of my friends/family doesn't happen to him. But to act like it's an impossibility is ridiculous, and dumb at best.

    Bruh, Pre-Nup.

As for seperate accts, maybe your wife develops a QVC addition, or a gambling problem. Well now she can't access your funds, can only fuck up her own acct. One thing I've learned, majority of people are insanely stupid with their money.

Ok I do see what you're saying. In your instance it does make sense.

Well, considering the fact it has been established zwick is inferior to his wife, shouldn't she be the one who is actually concerned?
  • ZWICK 4 PREZ
completely unrelated ... but reminded me of when my buddy and his wife were married and they had separate accounts. She was embezzling from work and he had no idea for that reason.. which still isn't technically his problem.. but the IRS and police made his life hell with making him turnover account records and he had no clue what was going on. but since she paid for stuff and some they put in his name it was still a nightmare.

Wow, weird. Very similar situation with my friend's mother in law. She managed the payroll at her job and took them for a LOT. She was MIA for a while and I saw my friend randomly in my hometown. He was visiting his MIL, she did like 8 months in a medium security prison.

They were in the middle of a divorce, but the FIL still went through hell.
  • SportsAndLady
If you're worried about your wife embezzling money or gambling addiction you probably shouldn't marry her.

I'd have no problem splitting a checking account with my gf now. And will do that when we get married. But will probably keep a separate account for purchases I don't want her seeing (gifts, surprises, and strip clubs).

    ppl are fucking nuts man

Anyone that's been in a long term relationship knows, the person you met in yr 1, usually isn't the same person in yr 5. Pre-nup & separate accts are a necessity.

If you're going to buy a house and worried about it being broken into/tornado/earthquake/flood/shitty next door neighbors you shouldn't buy it.

If you're going to travel and are afraid fo flying, you should stay home.

    Dumb as shit logic S&L.
