Why Didn't Dalton Just Stay Away from Jasper?

  • Dr Winston O'Boogie
Think it through...yes he ridded the town of Brad Wesley and his goons. However look a the damage:
    1. Death of Wade Garrett
    2. Burning of Red Websters auto parts store
    3. Destruction of the town's auto dealership
    4. Death of each of Wesley's goons causing a precipitous drop in Jasper consumer spending
    5. Great damage to Wesley's house - no doubt the finest property in town
    6. JC Penny's inevitable decision to not come to town. They were coming there because of Wesley. With Wesley gone, common sense says they ain't coming.
    7. Dalton's inevitable PTSD from yanking the throat out of Wesley's top guy. Granted the guy was a pathological homosexual predator. But remember how much Dalton carried his self-defensive killing in Memphis from many years ago? Why should we assume he won't be equally burdened by this latest incident?
    8. The eventual unemployment of several of the bar bouncers. Now that the Double Deuce is cleaned up, there is no reason that Tilman will wish to employ the army of bouncers it took to maintain the place in the "eyeball sweeping" days. Now historically many former Deuce bouncers were able to successfully transition to Wesley's squad. Obviously that is no longer an option. No car dealer, no auto parts store - not many places for a burly 30 year old to go.
    9. Wesley's aerobics punching bag. Where's she supposed to go? Her sugar daddy is dead. She was friends with the brunette waitress, but after that performance with the Stetson hat, it's safe to say the new Double Deuce won't want her.
    10. Burning of Emmit's house. Yet another building destroyed by Wesley's rage.
    11. The equilibrium Wesley provided. Granted everyone didn't like his methods or paying his tax. But it appears that aside from a little rough housing at the bar, the town ran pretty smoothly. Why mess with that?

Some similarities between Jasper and Ferguson.

Not all of them. Tinker survived after a polar bear fell on him. I'm guessing the all-you-can eat diners in Jasper remained prosperous.

Interesting. I was thinking the same of Jasper and Iraq/Afghanistan.

Good point. Tinker did survive. And there was always that hint that Tinker could be redeemed. Even still, I don't see him going to the Deuce because they already had their obligatory fat guy on staff. Maybe he could have started a knife fighting school or something. Regardless, he would never have found a home as good as the one with Wesley. Wesley loved Tinker because Tinker was big enough to apologize honestly when the situation called for it.

The Institute for Women's Policy states that women currently get paid 78.3% of what men are paid for the same work. That means Rousy is going to have the clumsy response to Tillman's request:

    TILLMAN: I want the best
    ROUSEY: Wade Garrett's the best.
    TILLMAN: Wade Garrett's gettin' old.
    ROUSEY: He's still the best.
    TILLMAN: I want you.
ROUSEY: (pause) $3,915 up front, $391.50 per night; you pay all medical expenses. When the job's over, I walk.
TILLMAN: I can live with that.
