You won't find any disagreements from me. I grew up in a family of teachers.Sonofanump;1752605 wrote:Not going to happen with today's society, this generation thinks school is nothing more than free babysitting so they can sit at home and collect the government hand outs. -

$55 a year? How does your community afford that?!ernest_t_bass;1752607 wrote:In my opinion, pay-to-play only means the school district is not allocating funds appropriately. We luckily do not charge pay-to-play, however we do charge in other areas. Here is the area that gets me every single year.
School Supplies: $50(ish) from the store
School Clothes: Whatever you want to spend
SCHOOL FEES: $55 (and climbing) every freaking year
I'm sorry... My elementary kids don't need to pay to go to freaking school. I think each grade should be accountable and give a breakdown of what these fees are actually paying for. When my kids have to bring Kleenex, Clorox Wipes, and other stupid crap as "supplies," then why the extra $$$ amount for "fees?"
My gripe??? ... Our district runs a $7 million carryover. -

It's not the point. If your school had a huge carryover, you buy a lot of the school's supplies (not school supplies), wouldn't you expect those to be smaller?SportsAndLady;1752616 wrote:$55 a year? How does your community afford that?! -

I agree that they need to be safe, but safe doesn't mean state of the art/top of the linehasbeen;1752606 wrote:With today's climate concerning concussions, a district/school/HFC should really be on top of ensuring their helmets grade out high enough to protect themselves. That doesn't mean you need the $300+ helmet. I believe the local school here has $275 helmets for grades 9-12 that have all been purchased within the last 5-6 years. Get a few new ones in and replace older ones, etc.
That ends up being a priority.
Heck of a lot different than back when we played. Concussion numbers have sky rocketed and it's because any type of head issues gets labeled a concussion and treated that way. -

What kills me is that my middle school aged kids pay $35, but my elementary kids pay $50 and have to have the bs tissues and what not. If you don't pay the fees, they hold the student's report card at ransom. I agree with you that it's bs -

When studys/reports are done and your helmets are rating at/near the top, the fear is a lawsuit. In today's age, you don't take risks, other people are simply responsible for your well being.bigkahuna;1752695 wrote:I agree that they need to be safe, but safe doesn't mean state of the art/top of the line
I'm not speaking from my opinion, but from experience. -
Ironman92My hometown school and the school where I teach....neither have pay to play (participate)
My teaching district is very rural and quite poor. My hometown school has been fairly well off for some years. -
sportchamppsNew Albany is $650.
Even at $650 that's still cheaper then what my parents paid per season for club soccer. I think my club team cost aroun $900 - 1k and that doesn't include travel or hotel rooms.
Is it fair for each sport to pay the same amount when equipment and travel may cost more for one sport vs another. -

Some sports don't cost as much, but also bring in little. There should be a way to calculate cost, revenue, etc and create a percentage scale.sportchampps;1752788 wrote:New Albany is $650.

Boys football and boys basketball typically support all the other sports, in that they typically bring in the lion's share of the profits.hasbeen;1752871 wrote:Some sports don't cost as much, but also bring in little.
