It's the fundamental nature of social conservatism. On one hand, they'll bitch about how minority groups are "forcing" everyone to cater to their every whim. On the other, they'll constantly whine about how others act (usually in some sort of "downfall of America" spiel) and look to label those who don't fit into their neat little groups as abominations or mentally ill. Despite being a political minority in the grand scheme of things.bigkahuna;1735244 wrote:But what about hormone therapy?

Spockthis is ridiculous. EVERY half white half black person identifies themselves as black. There isn't one news outlet that can find an example of a "white person" with a black parent.
This lady cant be black. She can live a black culture. -

...and they("progressives") convieniently forget they are the ones that are making people check identity boxes. Are you male or female...black, white, hispanic, native American???? parsing and dividing us up into little groups and doling out favors and advantages to those they qualify as deserving.they'll constantly whine about how others act (usually in some sort of "downfall of America" spiel) and look to label those who don't fit into their neat little groups as abominations or mentally ill.
Much like the physical world, the world of politics is round. Just like the physical world, if you travel far enough west, you'll eventually end up in the east....politically, if you travel left enough, you'll eventually end up near the far right. The methods of both are the same...legislate and force their view thru law and government mandate. There is a thin line between the two.
Personally, I can stomach the right wingers....they are predictable in that their beliefs are not self aggrandizing but time honored, traditional values that even though antiquated, most people are at least used to. Progressives, on the other hand, are among the most dangerous people on the planet. Their 'mandate doesn't come from anything familiar, but from the elistist belief that they know what's best for all of us. They manipulate and combine all the little checkboxes to create the political power they need to hammer their agenda. -
TiernanThe one person you should never be is the MVP of a sports playoff series if your team doesn't even win the series. Just sayin.

You'll probably have to explain where I did that, since I just was talking about social conservatives and not the far more intelligent and sane fiscal ones. And while you're doing so, I'll just be laughing at your "you guys generalize!!!!" spiel, which was followed by three paragraphs of generalizing progressives.HitsRus;1735454 wrote:....and this is the fundamental nature of 'lean forward' progressivism. I do agree that both sides are very interested in labeling people. I disagree that one side doing it their way is any better at the roots than the other side doing it their way. In my opinion, we have far too much labeling going on as a society. Whenever I go to, for example, Deadspin/Gawker, I get dozens of views labeling the whites as the root of all evil that are holding down everyone else. Whenever I come here, I get dozens of views bitching about/mocking every group that isn't white. In the end, it all blends together as a big mass of impotent whining by people who are far more assured about the rightness of their opinion than they have any logical right to be. -

Quite right. forgive me, but "Lean Forward" article appeared on my Facebook making the usual gross generalizations about Christians and conservatives from specific fundamentalist Christian viewpoints. My point actually, is that there is very little difference between the far left and far right.Heretic;1735619 wrote:You'll probably have to explain where I did that, since I just was talking about social conservatives and not the far more intelligent and sane fiscal ones. No prob, I agree with that a lot. I think the big problem is that, while there are definite differences in poli ideology, I think they could be worked out by both sides cooperating, but the far left/right types do nothing but bicker over every little thing that things just turn into this same ol' same ol' thing where nothing of note ever gets accomplished. Which leads to the generalizing labeling of an entire ideology based on the actions of the loudest sub-groups present. That gets really annoying after a while. Instead of "Rome burns while Nero fiddles", it's "America burns while politicians bicker". It'd be funny as hell if it wasn't sad reality.HitsRus;1735728 wrote:Quite right. forgive me, but "Lean Forward" article appeared on my Facebook making the usual gross generalizations about Christians and conservatives from specific fundamentalist Christian viewpoints.
