Violating that policy simply isn't something that qualifies as gross negligence, not when they operated that way for years without people getting a severed spine.

The police chief even said they probably haven't communicated the policy as well as they could have. You're training or awareness argument doesn't create gross negligence where there is none.

Now it may add to the civil judgement against the city, but that's about it.
I agree. I wasn't saying for a homicide charge. Just that they won't get away with nothing because of those excuses. If they did, rioting would ensue.

Officers recieved written notice 3 day earlier on new protocol, not implemented vs over 20 criminal act breaking the long standing laws on criminal felonies.

Oh! this is not the first time riding in a police van ... stay the fuck seated.
I'm not trying to place or remove blame anywhere. Just trying to think how it will play out in court.

Probably a little closer to the truth.

Anyone else have a strong suspicion that the reason they haven't released the officers skin color is because they are all black?

If you watched the video like the rest of America you'd see they were white.

Imagine if the AG was white and the officers were black. Would this A) even be news? or B) would it NOW be news?

    No and I doubt it.

but of it continued to happen for years and years it might.

6 officers will be charged with homicide now.

I haven't been keeping up on the news the last 2 days. I'm assuming they roughed him up in the paddy wagon?
  • Tiernan
Well of course he has...he's black ain't he?

Was there any mention of identifying, arresting and charging any of the people who committed crimes over the last several days?
  • WebFire
5 of the 6 cops are in custody.

I don't think anyone in Baltimore has the balls to arrest black people anymore.

I also wonder if you will start seeing a reduction in force from officers just deciding its no longer worth it; at least officers who work in crime ridden parts of cities. If I'm an officer, I take way less money to go work in some suburb so I don't have to worry about the hoodlums every day.

Saw the FOP is asking the prosecutor to excuse herself and appoint a special prosecutor to handle the case.
Funny how police never worry about impartiality until the shoe is on the other foot. They don't mind a relationship with the prosecutor when it's amicable.

I'd rather just see a reduction of events like this by police officers doing their job properly.

And yes, I know Freddie Gray is total trash.

I'd like to see bad cops removed from police forces and would like to hear more good cops publicly calling for the same. I'd like to hear the FOP say something like they support their officers, right up to the point where wrongdoing is proven. Advocacy group or not, their blind support of all cops' actions is not especially different from Rev. Al's position that everything is race-based.

And yes, I know Freddie Gray is total trash.
So is George Zimmerman, yet those who deem records relevant here didn't seem to share that opinion then.

Me too. I'd also like to see a reduction of murder, rape, assualt, car jackings, etc. Bad things happen.

Dark day for Baltimore, Maryland & USA in general when cops are indichted for doing their jobs. Shameful & pathetic.

Ehhhh, I wouldn't go that far. Based on the facts I've seen, a jury trial is warranted. Not sure about the manslaughter charge...I thought they would go with injuries during the arrest, or failure to get prompt and proper medical attention as their best shot at manslaughter. The latter may still be on the table, but sounds like they're saying his death was caused by being unrestrained and being thrown against a bolt. To me that's an accidental death, unless they can prove the "rough ride" which may be difficult to do beyond reasonable doubt.

No probable cause for arrest and the extra, unreported stop doesn't bode well for their defense. Some are saying the homicide charges are to get one or more of the cops to testify in exchange for a plea.

Question is if they all plea, will the hooligans be satisfied with anything other than a murder conviction?

Without a doubt. 5 of the 6 officers had nothing to do with the van ride. All they did was chase down a guy who ran from them in order to investigate why he ran from the police.
