Lance Armstrong

  • Dr Winston O'Boogie
I watched "The Armstrong Lie", a documentary about the whole case. It was very good since I wasn't familiar with much of the detail. My question is this: Why haven't all of other cyclists that have tested positive for doping during that era been banned for life like Armstrong? What he did was wrong, but in the context of how the sport was running at the time, it seems like if you didn't take drugs, you had no chance. Almost every rider that finished in the top three during 1999-2005 has tested positive at some point. So why is Armstrong the seemingly lone bad guy. I understand the outrage with respect to his cancer organization and how they were deceived and also how viciously he went after those who accused him. Those things may make him a jerk or a sociopath, but I don't understand why he's the sole fall guy.

    I dont know. Good question.
    I guess.
Trying to think back on the story.....maybe it was because his drug use was covered up and or fake tests? From what I remember he had people from the inside hiding it as well? OR I could be wrong.

GUy is a complete fuck up.

Lance Armstrong? Who cares? He's never won anything.

One of the biggest pieces of shit in the history of all sports.

Same reason Barry Bonds and Mark Maguire are the two "fall guys" for baseball. They were the one's "winning" at the time (set records).

No one cares if the whole sport was on the juice, but if the guy setting records is on the juice as well then he is a huge douchebag while everyone else is forgotten.

I think armstrong was a lot holier than thou compared to the others. They made such a big deal about him coming back after cancer and not needing drugs.

regardless of the drugs and cheating....

    1. everyone was cheating. Equal playing field
    2. the guy has done a hell of a lot of good in this world.
    3. he did all this with one nut.

Cycling, running, boxing.....hell every sport should just let everyone dope. Could you imagine how sweet sports would be to see the best genetically modified humans competing against each other 110 mile per hour fastballs, a whole football field full of players that were 250 pounds and running 4.2 40's, track races where everyone was doped would be sweet to watch

I know what he did was wrong but I still appreciate and respect everything he has done for cancer. His charity was one of the best in the world for cancer in terms of how they used the money that was donated. I know he is probably a dbag and he ruined some people lives with his lie but the good outweighs the bad for me.
  • Automatik
I have zero respect for him.

He fucking sought out to ruin the lives of people who spoke out on him by TELLING THE TRUTH.

He's a fraud and a terrible person, I give no fucks what he did for cancer.

I'm just glad those idiot bracelets aren't floating around anymore.

For Gods Sake it's FKG Cycling...HTF that guy ever generated so much media attention and raised so much money for doing something the rest of us quit doing when we turned 16 is a GD mystery to me. Hell he banged Sheryl Crow too and she's smoking hot. He's still living 100x better than any of us and the POS should be in prison.
  • Uz2Bon36
Lance is a complete dickhead but at one time he was amazing on a bike.
  • gut
Well he was already done with cycling, so the lifetime ban is a bit moot.

My guess is they did it because he's still such high-profile they didn't want him around or associated with sanctioned events in any shape or form. Also, not that all these teams didn't have sophisticated doping systems, but Armstrong & Team took it to a new level. In that regard, he was kind of a ring-leader for that era.

I don't think you'll ever get rid of PED's in pro sports. Too much advantage and too much financial gain at stake. But the bigger issue is that it's NOT a level playing field because money gives some access to better drugs and programs - like think about one guy only able to afford a recent college grad as a nutritionist with only candy bars to choose from, while another athlete gets a nutrionist with 30 years experience and a PhD with access to "superfoods" like Kale.

Come on CC. I can't believe you still defend the scumbag.

Oh, and here's another life he ruined.

LOL, great journalism there. Accusations made and no evidence.
  • Spock
same thing.......no actual evidence that someone was "ruined" by LA. He fired a guy.....that happens daily everywhere. Another rider put in his place. THat happens in every sport.

I have said this before too. Dope them up and lest see if a human can run a sub 7.5 hundred. They will find another way to cheat anyway.

We can credit Lance for another great thing...without him coaxing Lefluer to play in the dodgeball finals then there was no way that Average Joes wins that tournament.

OTOH, he ruined the lives of innocent people. That makes him a bad guy no matter how much he helped others.

I'm not going to go quite that far, but I will say that there is a little good and bad in all of us, and that hopefully, we and our athletic 'heroes' end up with more on the plus side. That said, I'm not sure that overall, LA tips the scales much in one direction or the other.
Comparing him to his athletic peers of the day, I don't think he was any worse than a lot of his athletic comtemporaries who always seemed to be looking for a chemical edge, pushing the line of legality, and often crossing it.

When you look at baseball and the numbers cranked out by guys, some caught and some not, you had to wonder if everybody was doing it. It is generally accepted that Jim Thome did not juice....if that was true, then he was probably the best 'pure' hitter of his era.

He's got more nuts than Luke fickell
