Wife picks for a new car ... for herself

  • Belly35
Ok! I told the wife that its time for her to get a new car.
What do you like .. within reason please.
This is just a work car and something she would enjoy driving everyday, take on short trips, shopping in...

She has a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L something something... .. her pick the last time also

So she comes home with two picks .. She said that she wants something smaller and easy on gas (she never bought gas nor has she ever pumped gas). I can understand smaller nobody ever rides in it, back set, never hauls anything big. She also stated she wants something with a better resell value.. wtf that sound like a sales pitch ..

    Her picks are:
2015 Ford Focus Sedan SE with some added options
2015 Honda Civic Sedan EX-L few option ...

They both add up to about the same price and options
Note: this is not my car and not what I would want ... Wife car, she picked it

Which one would you suggest she gets ...and why?

something not as shitty as a focus or civic

Civics seem so small to me, but I haven't ridden in one newer than 2013. So maybe they aren't.

Either way, I would go with the bigger of the two. I am not a fan of small cars.

My wife has a 2014 Focus and loves it. Plus it's nice and small, which means there's a slightly lesser chance of her hitting something.

Civic or just tell her to get another Accord. The Ecoboost on the Civic is nice if she really cares about gas.

Honda's run along time, but run/sound like RC cars. My wife has always owned them (Civic, Accord, Odyssey) and I can't stand when I have to get behind the wheel.

    Go with the Ford.

I put the gas on the companies fuel fleet card ...she clueless .. Now can she pump gas, sure can she knows how to but I just do it. I only have to fill up the Accord once a week on Sunday after Church

If she can drive a stick, go with the Focus standard. The newer Focus automatic transmissions at times "stutter" trying to find a gear, especially if more than 1 person will drive the car at different times. It is a "smart" transmission that tries to adapt to the driving tendencies to get better gas mileage. If your wife is the ONLY driver, then it will stutter some when she first buys it but after a few weeks it will be fine. If you EVER drive it after that, it will most definitely "stutter" when you drive it (it gets used to how she drives).

I love my Focus standard, don't like driving my wife's Focus automatic for that reason.

Other than that transmission issue, I have no problems at all with Ford Foci (yes, that's the plural of Focus). I have driven my last 2 to over 220,000 miles before I got rid of them.

The Civic did seem to be bigger inside and the control instruments better located ...

Daughter Civic with Ecoboost is very nice ...but with the heater on or air conditioner in the summer not as effect on gas saving...

The wife can drive a standard stick but that not an option she wants ... she would be the only individual driving this car ... I sometime would be driving it for short trips on the highway ..

I thought ecoboost was a ford thing?

You should check out Subaru imprezas. They are about this size, get 28/37 and are awd.

What are you doing with the Accord?

My wife always wants me to pump her gas. She goes out of her way to leave the tank empty and then tries to get me to drive her car.

She also thinks I should wash her car whenever she thinks it needs it. I told her not to get a black car but she wouldn't listen to me.

    Drives me fucking crazy

Why a sedan? How often does she really have back seat passengers?
  • Fab4Runner
I think it's a nice, gentlemanly thing for a guy to do, but I don't expect anyone to pump my gas or wash my car.

Same with every car ever made.

If I'm in the car and she needs gas I will pump it, but normally we take my truck when we drive anywhere. Except when she needs gas and then she will suggest we take her car and the gas light will already be on when I start it. That's the part that bugs me. It's so obvious that she didn't want to do it and now we have to hope there's enough gas in the tank to get us somewhere. And that also usually makes us late for wherever we were going.

I have a Civic, and it sucks. Belly, go sit your ass in both, and see what you prefer. Civic sucks. It's so small.

This. While I'll be dumping the Civic for an F-150, if I had to go to another car, it would be an Accord for the rest of my life, never downsizing again.
