Championship game plan ......

Next year New Year's Day is on a Friday. If they can wait 14 days they can have it on the Friday the 15th.

The semis aren't always going to be on New Year's Day.

    2015-2016
    Semis: December 31
    Final: January 11

    2016-2017
    Semis: December 31
    Final: January 9

    2017-2018
    Semis: January 1
    Final: January 8

Of course that will all change when they more than likely expand the playoffs this offseason.

The Championship is always a Monday. They won't play it on the weekend because of stadium conflicts. Next year it is in Arizona and the year after it's in Tampa.

    WEll that fucking sucks!
So that absolutely pointless bowl games on NYD.

Ratings were huge for the two games. The two highest rated programs on cable. They beat one of the NFL playoff game ratings this weekend....Carolina and Az, which I can see why.

    Ah, the stadium conflict possibility.

That is the best explanation, and most logical.

In order to even put a stadiums name in the hat to hold the championship, it has to seat 65K. So that narrows it down to all but just a few NFL stadiums.

Makes sense. I would imagine they most likely prefer it to be indoors as well.

Where have you read that expanding the playoffs for next season is even a possibility?

It's my opinion. Maybe not THIS offseason, but it won't be long.

It took them long enough to even bring a playoff, I bet it will be awhile before we see expansion.

The initial numbers were huge as well as the $$ it was generated. It will be a done deal, but I think it may take a few years to get expanded.

Agreed. I think we see at least 4-5 years of the current format.

I think they are going to enjoy the record ratings for a few years.
I think if they go with 8 teams though it would be prudent to have the first round be held at the home field of the teams.
I think three games on neutral fields for these teams would be a bit much for the fans. First could be mid december, semi finals NYD and finals the same as they are now.

I have no preference who wins, but I think I feel a stomach virus coming on for next Tuesday.

If anything happens I think they move to 6 teams...with the #1 and #2 seed possibly getting a bye. However, this years 4 team system has worked just fine....too bad it took them so long to do it.

I can't forsee the Big12 and ACC being happy being the odd conference out every other year. Can't fit 5 into 4.

They will move it to 6-8 after the SEC gets left out of the top 4...

It would be cool to see an 8 team playoff with the first round being played at the higher seed's stadium. Would be an awesome atmosphere for college football.

My ultimate hope is for an 8 team playoff with the rule if you win the title game, you are in. If you lose, you can still qualify, but 6 power conference winners are automatic. Creates a collagee basketball like feel (which is why I want this and no one else would lol). This makes it, essentially, a 14 team playoff.

I only consider 5 of the conferences a power conference.

Last two championship games I watched with a buddy at his house. Not happening this time.

I'm gonna watch at work, unless I go home "sick".
